Christ, Colin:

You got the specifics on the aircraft types and quantities before we did !

Further, but not yet announced, we're probably going to buy some Chinook choppers from Boeing.

These are heavy hook logistic helicopters which, during our Liberal military budget slashing spree of the early '90s, were sold to the Dutch, who are now using these same aircraft in guess where...?

That would be a good move, the CH47D, which is what I presume you would buy, gets rid of all the old problems, especially in the gearbox area

That's great news Herkman. Maybe we won't have to rely on U.S. airlift to get our grunts and gear to where we're going! I saw my first C17 in Israel in '99 and was impressed by it's capability: payload of 85 tons and a cargo bay 18' wide so we'll be able to airlift our MBT's (we still have tanks, don't we?). The C17 only needs a 3000' runway and can operate from austere airfields (read dirt) so should see a lot of Afghanistan!
