Default Track jack differences

So I have 2 types of track jacks that have different lengths of claws on them. The one on the right is the same track jack I have with my carrier tool kit. It has a reach of 1 1/2 inches whereas the other track jack has a reach of 2 1/2 inches. Was the longer one for a different carrier? Windsor or T-16? The bottom claw on the shorter version has a collar on it whereas the longer version does not.
I’ll have to look for the rest of the jack pieces but not sure with the longer claw jack if it’s the same jacking body assembly or is it something different?
Thanks,Derk

Is it for the track with the snow cleats?

I see in the post of my inquiry of track jack handles that Andrew Rowe posted a picture of a track jack he has and it’s of the longer claw track jack with no spacer in between the claws. Still wondering if this was just an early production that was later modified or did it have a specific reason why the claws are 1 inch longer?
At least I know there are more than one that exist!

My bet is that the track jack with the longer fingers is the earlier type. The long fingers would be prone to bending and breaking. My money says the short fingers are to reduce the chance of bending the fingers, and the spacer stops the operator from over tensioning the track jack to the point of breaking the fingers. I think the spacer will come pretty close to the distance of a track section.

I think you are correct, Rob.

If you look at the photos Derk posted with the tape measure on the long version, the tips look like they are already flaring outward beyond the 2-inch mark.

Be interesting if Derk measured the gap at the shaft and at the tips. I would guess the tip gap is greater.

those longer ones are definitely going to be more prone to bending,

i have a jack that is in pretty good condition and it has the CO1UC part number on the inside of the jaws do these long jaw versions have a part number?
