Default Just because...

..and to lament these things are now prohibited and must be 'bought back' by the government here in Canada:

Who said it was mine? And if it was I wouldn't risk a criminal conviction for not complying.

Default Government and Public Responses

It is interesting to gauge the public and government response to well publicized killings and sadly we had a person with mental health issues kill a couple of people and injure about another half-dozen in Quebec City with katana on Halloween. Following this tragic event there was no mass outcry to ban sword ownership in urban areas or new legislation prohibiting a vast array of antique knives and swords accompanied by a plan to buy back all butcher knives. Public perception of the weapon involved drives the government response and sadly few Canadians know anything about firearms, but most own a blade.

Might I suggest the British option, Bruce.

Have a gunsmith bore it to 12 Gauge, and mark it as such. In their plan - No rifling is a shotgun...

Just a thought.

Hell, they'd just call it an AR variant (black and has a pistol grip) and take it anyway. I wonder if you sleeved a 25 pounder to .22 LR you'd be OK.

None of the above would work. The Order in Council reads: "capable of". Furthermore the Boys is a named prohib.

The RCMP have not pushed this as far as they can (yet). In one case, they deemed a 1908 Brazilian Mauser as a prohib because it was modified to fire a .460 Weatherby cartridge. Technically, this should make all the 1908 Brazilian Mausers prohibited since their actions are capable of handling a cartridge which produces over 10000 joules of energy.
