Default movie TOBRUK

Did anyone catch this movie on SBS a few nights back

The plot was based around a unit of Czech soldiers in the Tobruk seige .

A very nice 12 cab Ford appeared in some scenes with 9th div. AIF markings on it ! It was finished in the Caunter livery .

Whoever did the research for that movie really did a good job .

The scenery was very believable for the Libyian desert . Most of the movie focussed on the mundane and somewhat boring existance of the troops between the fighting ..

One of the better war movies I've seen in many years ...

There was some info on this movie a few years ago on MLU. I seem to remember some set pictures with the truck in question.

Default Well spotted

Hi guys, yes I thpought I was the only one to see that. I was very impressed with the detail - much better than the average hollywood style depiction. I missed the beginning and for a while thought they were a Polish battalion.

The same CMP seemed to be used over and over with or without bows but that's not to detract from the quality of the film. Did you notice the very realistic wrecks in the battleground scrap heap when he went AWOL ?

Nice to see the producers cared about historical accuracy for a change and it was a very enjoyable film.

Cheers

Phill

Default tyres

No armour but I'd love to know where they got the correct WW2 era looking tyres for the cab 12 F60 Ford . They had a scene where a flat tyre happened .

The uniforms and all kit were excellent as well .

Phil, I missed the beginning also .

Default It's not the brain cells it is the size of MLU

Hi Mike & Hanno

Mike I was wondering if the movie had made its way out to distribution, is it titled "TOBRUK" or is there more to the title so I can look for it?

Thanks Hanno for the search the link in that thread that I enjoyed was http://www.ceskatelevize.cz/specialy.../slideshow.php .

Searching MLU is almost an art form because of the size as well of the wealth of information that has been brought to it by so many people.

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil

Here's the movie on the German amazon website. Haven't found in the US shop though. Languages are German and Czech only!

However, there are sites in the internet where you'll find those things for downloading...

Greetings
Chris

That's allright Mike.

Best thing of frazzled brain cells is that you can make new friends every day

Default Tobruk

Hi All

There were a number of films made with the name TOBRUK, including the movie starring Rock Hudson, George Peppard. Guy Stockwell and Nigel Green. This was a good movie where a convoy of British and German Jewish commandos, in German Afrika Korp uniforms cross 800 Miles of Libyan Desert to blow up a Nazi fortress at Tobruk. Rock Hudson plays the part of a Canadian officer rescued from a prison ship to go along on the raid. The movie is supposed to be based on a real life Little-known incident. There was another similar movie starring Richard Burton, in this movie there were some exact battles scenes used. The Rock Hudson version was a better movie. If you get a chance to see the movie do so it is worth it. There was another movie "Play Dirty" with Michael Cain also worth watching if you are interested in LRDG type movies.

Cheers

Tony
