Default Attack carrier question

Hi guys. I am making a model of the Australian 2pound Anti Tank gun carrier.

Now the motor has been shifted to the front left hand side and I was wondering where, underneath, the exaust pipes run and also wondering if the mufflers are in the same place on the rear plate in front of the rear axle drive?

I will post a pic or two as the model progresses.

thanks for any help

Cheers
Cliff

Default 2 Pdr A/T Carrier Exhaust

Hi Cliff,
I'll have a go.... are you building an early or late production model ?
Allow me to put my foot in mouth ........ my "6079" - 79th of 200 appears to be of the #early batch with straight exhausts, simple air flaps at the front and only one air cleaner.
The left hand ex/pipe exits the engine bay 125mm in from the left and 125 mm from the start of the flat floor, and angles straight back to the rear of the floor 300mm in from the left.
A small bracket indicates the pipe would then goose neck up and out.
Will post info on right pipe if you want.
The only A/T Carrier I "knew" of in Qld was in Caboolture, at the Historical Town / 11th LH ? The front centre tow lug was missing, this is where the serial no. was stamped, the hull was in bad shape but I thought work had started on it (~1995?) - where is it now ?.

Cheers G7s

thanks for that. From references I had already realised that there was possibly 2 or more versions of it and hopefully I have made mine to look like one of them.

I am using the Tamiya carrier kit hull and bogies and have a Sovereign 2000 2lb AT gun in resin. I have already had to modify the gun as the sheild was sitting 5mm too far forward.

The top armor and gun platform are all scratch built to as accurate as possible going on the photos and a few other reference bits and pieces I have. I dought that I have it 100% accurate but it will look like an Aussie attack carrier at least.

I have no idea where the Caboolture one has gone to or if it is still there. One day a trip is planned to go back to the historical village and I will check if it is still there but when this will be only the man upstairs knows.

thanks for the pic and the info I really appreciate it.

cheers
Cliff

Default Length is important

Of course Cliff, you know the A/T Carrier is longer than the LP2
( 3.5M stretched to 3.7M for A/T C ) may explain the 5mm error ?

Hmmm no the gun kit was wrong as the pedals were 6mm away from the shield whereas all the pics I have showed them pretty close.

And darn I did not know about the extra 200mm! Is it in the hull itself or just on the top, flat gun platform? This may explain some of the trouble I have been having getting things to fit correctly.

thanks and cheers

Default I shouldn't have said ...

Hi Cliff,
the overall length of the LP2 carrier, nose to the backplate is 3.5 M for the A/T carrier nose to backplate 3.7 M
The "extra" 200 mm of body, are between the front & second idler wheels.
The distance between the driver's /& engine baulkhead/ barrel clamp & the rear of the curved fighting platform 2.44 M /or 8'
The fighting platform (A/T) does over hang the backplate by 300 mm, at the top of the curve.
Come over and have a look.
Howzat ?

LOL I agree

one last question on the carrier if I may please.

I see now where the extra room is but was the drivers seat changed? for instance in an ordinary carrier the seat back is fixed to the bulkhead. Is it more like a truck seat type clear of the bulkhead?

cheers
Cliff

Default False baulkhead

Let's hope this is both entertaining and informative.

The seat backrests are the "same", the LP2 carrier type are mounted on a steel plate, with the twist of a butterfly nut, the plate and backrest comes out and reveals the air filters. on the A/T carrier the back rest is bolted straight on to a baulkhead (fixed). In the birdseye photo, hopefully, you will see that forward of the main baulkhead is this " backrest baulkhead",
in that gap behind the driver you will see a muzzle gripper in the open position - this is where the bren gun is stood up in storage there is room for a Bren mag box too.
The engine bay is on the right, and my nuts are on top of the driver's tool box (joke), the instrument dash bottom left.

Thanks mate. That storage area behind the seat is missing or not shown on the information I have so that pic is worth a million words to me. Looks like I have to rebuild most of the divers compartment now as well but at least it is still do-able at this stage.

Thanks and cheers
Cliff
