Loyd Carrier Fans
I have yet to find a wartime photo of a Loyd with the engine clearly visible, does anyone know what fan was fitted originally? As the engine and Rad were from the WOT / pre war 7V I presume it had the same fan... would that be 4 or 6 bladed?

I believe it is specific to the Loyd, as the fan is a "pusher", and so the blades are twisted the other way. If you have access to a Loyd parts book you will be able to confirm this.

The parts book lists the fan but gives no details at all
 '276.B ... Fan ... 1' There are no illustrations, there are good ones of the radiator, piping and engine covers but it doesn't cover the engine itself at all. According the the preface the part number prefix: LV2/LY = Vivian Loyd Ltd manufactured part LV2/TL = Standard Universal Carrier sourced part LV3/FD = Ford manufactured part LV2/GB = Girling manufactured part MT5/ = Misc nuts bots etc MT4/CB = CAV manufactured part Period photos are the best ID of all, but as said before, I haven't seen ONE that shows the engine, what I need is a photo of an engine being removed! Some of the UC photos of engine removal give great detail for an accurate rebuild.

I agree with your line of thought. many photos in manuals,were "available" pictures, not nessassarily the "correct" thing.

Lynn is correct, the Loyd fan does blow. ISTR that when Bob first restored his Loyd and took it to a Bovington battle day, it had a 'normal' fan fitted. The dust it hoovered in to the engine and into the crew compartment was a real problem! I'm fairly sure he found or made a correct fan.
The parts list for the Starting and charging shows a very simple line drawing for the fan but it does show it as a blower.

Yes, I remember its a blower, Bob had relayed that story to me earlier :-) I should have mentioned it before.... Adrian, did the drawing show a 4 or 6 bladed fan or did it simply show the flow of air?

A six blade fan is shown. I'm sure it's just a reverse flow version of the standard fan.
