Wireless Set 19 collectors - eat your hearts out
I recently bought a copy of the 19 set Working Instructions on EBay. There was a price list for WS19 parts tucked inside the book that looks as if was probably created not too long post-war as surplus units were being cleared.
Scans are attached: (on page 1, the text lost in the fold line reads "TELEGRAPH KEY ASSEMBLY". Before you go out and commit suicide over the way prices have risen, consider how the cost of other things has risen over the same time, a loaf of bread, a newspaper, a pair of shoes.... |

Grant: You really know how to hurt a guy!!!
I recall a surplus store called Hercules on Yonge St in Toronto which sold totally complete sets in a wooden crate for the horribly high cost of $10.00. This was in the mid to late '50s when amateur radio operators would use them for HF DXing on the 40m through to the 120m bands. Even today, at hamfest swap meets, junker Rx/Tx and/or Power Supplies fetch up to $75.00 alone. Thanks for sharing the list.

Those were the days, never to be seen again. Today it all seems to be destroyed lest it fall into the hands of an evil empire.
I bought my first 19 set in 1970 from a surplus store in North Vancouver. It was brand new, still in the pine box with all the bits and pieces. Cost? $16.95. I seem to remember Sabre Industries in Winterpeg was selling them for a lot more. Mind you, back then you could buy a $50 jeep in a crate!! |

...and $25 Lee Enfields, almost new condition; brand new SMLE bayonets with sheath were $1.49.

Grant: Just for the hell of it...let's compare editions and price of the 19 set manual.
My manual is "Working Instruction Wireless Set (Canadian) No. 19 Mark III" Ref No. RCA 113923-1 I paid $45.00 CDN about 7-8 years ago, not eBay, local to the Brampton, ON area. Yours?

Comparison of manuals
Jon,
The title and the part numbers are the same, the price isn't... I paid C$24.14 including shipping from Guelph. Occasionally there is a bargain to be had on EBay, but I often seem to willing to spend only a small fraction of what others are willing to spend for a piece of kit. (And then there's postage from Europe or Australia or wherever the thing I would like is located.) |

Deals are still out there. I just picked up a few weeks ago on ebay a spare part kit for the 19Set. Most of the small stuff is there. It was however missing the morse key thingy and im sure some other things.
Check out what I paid for it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=230165620574

Good find, Jordan, and great price.
However what you got is the No 5C, ZA 1904, post war. Purists, like myself, (and still looking for) would opt for the No C1, Pye No 76550C, ZA 0712, c/o 64 parts, as listed in EMERs FZ 256/3.

Found...
Hey guys, I've yet to get it out of my trunk but it is a Wireless set 19 Mark 111, withmanuals and an extra box of tubes. Comes with antenna, and from what the guy told me, it still fires up.
I'll post some pics of the actual set soon, but here are some pics I too already...Cheers! |
