Radio box ID
....now used as a tool shed....
A large radio truck box..... intended for a 6x6..... has small windows and only entry is by a door and a half at rear...... ID tag on box says..... CV - 4........ shape of box is different than what I have seenon 2 1/2 ton trucks....... roof is arched slightly from side to side and corners are almost square as opposed to the more familair rounded shape corners of more modern boxes...... construction is all steel..... any ideas what it was or a picture installed on the proepr vehicle....??? will be visiting the individual for a photo shoot if it is promising.... Bob

Do you have a photo of the box? I have a deuce box (used for a shed of course) and the ID plate on it shows the manual as being CV47. The number CV4 rings a bell but I can't place it right now.

Are you sure it's a Radio box? There were a number of different GMC's that used the same or very similar box body. Here are a few examples:

I suspect that it is post WWII
From the wheel cut outs, and tie down hooks, I would suspect that it is post WWII design, but I have not found a refference picture yet.
I'd look at M135 or M211 equipment vans.

Quote:
The box in the photo is mine and it is indeed a box off a M211 or some other variant of the M135 deuce and a half. I only put it on the thread to give Bob something to compare to. When Canada got rid of the M135 fleet, many to most of these boxes were removed from the trucks prior to sale and were used for things like shelter for the smokers (who back then had to go outside the building to engage in their habit), or else for extra storage for vehicle spares. Over the years, they were gradually sent to new homes as the novelty wore off. I was given mine when my unit moved to a new building and the aesthetics of an old truck box sitting outside of the side door did not meet the vision of the leaders. |

Picture
Bob! Here is that picture I told you about that my Dad had in his album. It probably is not the box that you are referring to but never the less an interesting picture.
Hope it attaches.. here goes. Craig Tanner |

Craig, it is indeed an interesting photo. The winter rad cover is rare in a photo and the round mirrors really show up.
Cheers, Barry

Thanks for the comments...
..... only a picture will clear up this issue..... will drop by the guys place camera in hand this time.....
From Rob's picture I think this one is different.... the wheel wells cutout framed and more angular and the top corners more square..... some decals stickers outside warned of antenna/electrical danger.... Hang in there.... Bob
