Default Round seven of Name That Vehicle, (Texas especially)

Dear Sapper740, have a go at this. Might I ask for the indulgence of the peoples in Her Britannic Majesty's United Kingdom, and the Yurrupeens at large, to hang fire on the kbd for a moment while those frightfully nice people of the New World ex-colony have a go at it.

Being just after 11:00hrs over there perhaps we could wait until bed time before tippy-tappy at the kbd?

Nice cup of tea and a Penguin as second guess prize, plus a whizz up High Street, Shirrell Heath in the 623 for the first correct answer.

Now lets just hope the image fits Ball-Spinnington's serving apparatus. Goodness knows what'll happen, I'm just finding my way round Corel. . . . . . . . . .

Some sort of KettenKraftRad, excuse my spelling, I'm typing from memory, not quoting from a book.

Default Kettenkrad

Could this be the HK 102 that was suposed to be a larger version of the Kettenkrad that never reached mass production?

Well done, the northern colonies have it; 'fraid Sapper has blown the 623 cabby but the tea and Penguin is at your request.

großes Kettenkraftrad HK102, you noticed the extra road wheel didn't you?

Must find something else after dinner. . . . . . . . .

Hang on a sec, aren't penguins from the Antarctic? Ah ha, a penguin smuggler! Trying to avoid paying H.S.T., G.S.T., P.S.T., and any other S.T.'s that are out there. Wait a minute S.T. ... that sounds a lot like the Quebecois epithet ISTY! Now I know where it comes from, Quebecers, like us hate to pay taxes!

R., allow me a little time to do some research. It's too pedestrian for you to simply post a pic of a Tiger; this is probably a rare variation that only people having visited Bovington or having been to Beltring would know about.

Well, Mr. R., being a neophyte at the science of identifying the rarer versions of military vehicles I would have liked more time, but not wanting to delay your "Feier des Weidens", here goes:

PzKpfw VI Ausf H mit kwk 36 L/56
Sdkfz 181

Good effort on the accuracy of the German MV nomenclature, although pedantry would have preferred it in full even though the language is so unwieldy even the originators use initials.

But no, it is definitely not a Tiger, or even a "rarer version".

I expect by now there are a few English men poised at the confuser, provided there is nothing on telly tonight, to tell all.

No, no, let 'em sweat it out. It is quite enjoyable to see the tables turned Sapper will no doubt return with a new one for us to identify, when he realises what this one is

Hmmm? Seeing the tank in profile would definitely be a boon. However, the brash young man that I am; here goes:

Panzer Kampf Wagen IV ausf G mit Kwk 40 L/48

Nope.
Maybe a profile piccy tomorrow, but that would be a giveaway; anyway the sun has long set on Albion and at 23:30 I do need to have a kip.

You may well have cracked it by then, in both instances consider the "ground connection".

Night, night.

My guess would be some sort of Leichter PanzerSpahWagen, perhaps a SdKfz 222?

Jetzt warten mein kleiner Kohl, wenn Sie mich entschuldigen, meine Ventilatoren die folgende Episode "des Namens dieser Träger!"

Just you watch who you're calling a small cabbage.

And of course no, the armoured car is not a Sonderkraftfahrzeug 222.

I suppose I'll have to give you a side view, but, impress us all by naming the original commander and how it was lost. There's enough info in the picture.

Default Well, it just goes to show how little I know....

Doesn't look German at all to me, Richard. 8~)

Sort of looks like the one Lt Hubert Gruber used to turn up at the cafe for lunch in, but of course I've been known to be completely wrong - may not be a Morris Commercial or whatever at all.

HUH! Christie suspension? Vas is los? Looks like T-34 running gear, with a Tiger turret, but that wouldn't be proportional. This is a tank that has been cobbled together, probably for a movie or something. Just to keep things fair, we should try to stick to vehicles that have actually existed in a country's arsenal.
As for the armoured car, I was certain it was a Leichter PanzerSpahWagen, but as we all know, I've been wrong before. Let me do a little further research and I'll get back to you.

I think I know where I've gone wrong on this vehicle. I've concentrated on the armament, not the hull. I'll change my guess to a SdKfz 221. Where the confusion set in is that every reference I've discovered states the 221 mounted a MG 34. The vehicle in your picture obviously has a larger weapon mounted, perhaps a 2 cm? Is this a correct and original vehicle in your picture, or another movie prop?

Derek,

Ha ha, the tables are turned here. It has certainly got you ferretting through your reference library for the answer on this one.

...and that's a good thing! Previously, my focus has been on small arms, WW I and WW II warships, and military aircraft. Quite a diverse mix! I came late to the world of miltary vehicles and as evidenced by my lack of knowledge, I have a lot of catching up to do. But I enjoy this "Name that Vehicle" thread as I hope you all do too. I try to throw a little humour in and I hope no one takes offence at my short descriptions of the winners, it's all in jest. Please keep challenging me, as it is how I learn.

Quite so, the allegory is entirely intentional.

And in a similar vein, I am a radio comms, crypto and electronics engineer as produced by GCHQ.
