Today, lot of modern photo shops have all the technical capabilities to transform the 16 mm film to the DVD format with affordable cost..

Don't worry it will be made available to MLU at a reasonable cost.
If we buy it we will be transferring it professionally.

Default got it!

G'Day

We bought the above mentioned video. Price was a mind-blowing EUR 236 (AUD 320) plus shipping half away around the world. So fingers-crossed it was worth it.

Hope you MLUers will support it in bying Keefy's DVD

Greetings

The film hasn't touched Aussie soil yet, still in Germany. Let's hope the snail mail is faster than usually...

I'm with you Hanno. The story behind it's survival in Germany could be as interesting as the movie itself.

Well done all.

I've got my money ready for my copy.

Default History

I was thinking we could make up an elaborate story about how it was being carried in a FGT which was captured by the Germans, with the film being rushed to Hitler's bunker, where once he viewed it he realised for him the war was lost.

Maybe edit 'Hitlers rant' out of the movie Downfall to fit in with that yarn...

Good job guys! I am really curious what's on the video.

Actually I thought it was Adolph Galland who said "Give me a squadron of CMP's" (not necessarily Fords...) after he watched the video which was brought to Germany by a German POW who swam all the way from Canada to Germany after jumping from a train near Ottawa.

Just as well the film survived the long immersion in salt water.

Hope we can all order our copy or copies soon.

Any ideas how long a 18cm/7inch spool runs?

Cheers,

Are we sure that this isn't just a CBC or NFB wartime production?

That would be the most likely option, in my view. A copy was sent over to entertain/educate the troops of the Canadian Army Occupation Force in Germany. At some point in time the film went AWOL, only to surface from a chest in jemand's*) attic which is being cleared out by jemand's children, who, fortunately, decided to flog it on Ebay?

Could have gone like this, eh?

H.

*) jemand = someone

Default Good news!

The film has arrived safely and I have just had it transferred at broadcast quality.
It's a propaganda film (no surprise) called Backfire and it runs about 10 minutes. There is quite a lot of CMP action, including F15As and Carriers being built and doing incredible jumps (read very bad for the vehicle and scary jumps), shots of F60Ls doing skidding broadside stops to block roads, construction of engines and vehicle assembly, including carriers, lots of nice FGT footage including winching.
The storyline is naturally dated but typical of the era, deriding the enemy at every opportunity.
CMPs shown are all cab 13s.

I will also make NTSC DVDs, and they should be available from next week.
Price will be $20 per DVD and I will also include some silent but fantastic footage showing a cab 12 being taken out of it's packing case and being assembled - there will possibly also be some FGT No 3A (Aust) action in it too.

Please PM me with your details to order copies.

I'll put some short clips online in due course.
