What is a parts C8A worth?
Hey there, I'm looking at a 42 C8A that I need for parts. It is missing the engine and the back end has been hacked off. It has the front doors (rusty), rear axles and steering box etc. that I need for mine. The guy says he wants 500. for the whole thing. Is it worth that? I'm thinking more like 300. What is this vehicle worth in restored condition? Glenn

Glenn, restored condition is really irrelivant in this case as I see it. It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. A C8A is a fairly rare beast to begin with, how many have you seen around? I guess it comes down to a willing party who really wants it and a seller that wants to part with it. The rims are difficult to find and are probably worth a couple hundred on their own...

Hi Glenn.
Have you told him you were thinking more around $300? If you haven't do so and you never know. If he says thats too high then split the difference and go for $400. Another thing to think of, what would you pay for all those parts that the C8A has individualy. Would it be higher/lower then the $500? Like Chris says, it is hard to get a standard price. Another thing to think about is how easy is it to recover. If you have to clear lots of brush away maybe you can get a better price. Good luck on it and let us know how it turns out.

Hey guys thanks for the replys. I'm new to the CMP's and really have no idea of how rare they are or what value they have, so it's nice to be able to get input from people who know. Mine is in really rough shape and so is the one I'm looking at, but together with a lot of work I could make one. To look at either one a person might think they are worth nothing, but like you say if you were to buy the parts individually it would be a lot more than $500. The wheels are something I was wondering about, one has 20" wheels that look like someone made them, and the other has 16" split rims that look like they are bolted together. Are the 16" split rims the original?

Your 16" rims would be correct for a HUP. They should also be a 5 bolt pattern, as opposed to a 6 bolt used on most cmps..

I guess someone has made the wheels for my hup because they have 6 studs with a flat plate center and 20" rims.

I'll make him buy me a beer this summer at CC5(A CMP gather up in Southern Ontario that we all try to go to,for saying nice things about him,and not calling him a $*%&*#)@*# dummy) A lot of us are going to CC5 this summer..Book early.. http://www.funnyclicks.com/pictures16/ku_105.jpg

3rd world choo choos
Hi Alex:
I heard that two of those passed on a double track main line. Neither train touched the other but 50 people were killed! I wonder what OHSA would have to say about the extra "crew"? Cheers, Mike
