CMP chevrolet pilot model truck for sale in Saskatchewan
Jordan sent me the link to this one, although I have seen photos of the truck before. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars...uck/1575644277
It is one of the 1938 Chev pilot trucks. It appears to have a Ben Hur trailer box tossed on the back, as the wooden box will have rotted away. But as a Saskatchewan truck, it should have very little rust. Quote:
I called out of interest...owner would like to see 10K. Last edited by rob love; 12-07-21 at 01:25. |

Doug Leski shared the ad on FB also. I hope someone in Canada buys and restores it!

By the way, this is one of 51 built by GM in 1938. Read more in this article by Clive Law & David Hayward:

Very significant vehicle.
The design was obviously rejected because, although they gave it a good shot, it did not meet the British ugly vehicle test sufficiently. Lang |

Too funny, although clearly true. We Canadians made up for it with the 13 cab I'm sure you'll agree.

Second failure point: Too much leg room!

Leg room
I agree. At 6’5” I can’t get in an 11 or 12 cab. I might be able to drive this one.

...and the box??????
..... wrong box....... looks to me like a civilian 1940 Chev 1 ton box....all steel and too long for the pilot model.
Buyer would need to fabricate a 2A1 from wood.....is there enough info available to faithfully reproduce the wooden box...? Will now need to clean my keyboard from over salivation!!!!!!! I mean droollllll!!!!

The box looks like a Ben Hur trailer box. Clive Law had something on the early wood cargo boxes...not sure if I still have it on this computer....it might be buried in my emails. However, enough is known about the boxes basic design, combined with the existing photos of the original trucks, that I believe a fairly faithful replica could be made up.

I think you are right.....
...even has a brake light on the left side that looks "Ben Hur..ish"
You buy the truck and will buy the box from you $500. and even pick it up... Wonder if Bill Gates has any money left after his divorce.

The 10K seems a bit ludicrous, but when you consider a reasonable run of the mill 15cwt Cab13 in restorable condition might run $3 or 4K, then maybe one of the pilot 15cwt trucks might be worth double that?
Had it been something like 2K, or maybe a little more, I had authorization from my better half/conscience to have headed out last Sunday morning and bring it home. The fudruckers hamburger in Saskatoon would have been the tradeoff for allowing a Chevy in the yard. |

Dawn is the middle (wo)man. She referred the question to her husband who was sitting nearby.
Looking to take on another project Mr Bergeron? |

He'd put a 2K1 wireless body on it.

I think my friend Bruce is teasing me ...for my love of aluminium boxes . No Rob , my hands are full with my latest . You can save it if Dawn can talk some sense into that man with ridiculous expectations. But it is a Chevy ...

Yep, and by design is already missing two cylinders. However, no doubt that leaking engine thoroughly coated the underside of the vehicle with oil during the 20 year lifespan of one of those motors, so the sheet metal and frame should be solid.
That was the problem in Saskatchewan with the Fords. Those engines ran and ran, and after 40 to 50 years of farm operation, the chassis and power-train would finally be worn out. |
