Default 2-pounder recoil cylinder dimensions?

It looks like there are some people here who own a real one of these guns, so I guess this is as good a place to ask as any: What are the basic dimensions of the recoil cylinder under the barrel of the 2-pounder antitank gun?

I’m basically looking for the total length, the diameter, the length of the domed end cap, and the lengths and positions of the bands on it

The reason I would like to know is this:

This is a Sherman BARV, and after much headscratching on various forums about what that thing’s purpose is, which was solved by the REME museum (it’s a shock absorber, for using a cable to pull things free when they’re stuck), I finally worked out it’s a 2-pounder recoil cylinder — and not 6-pounder, as I thought at first. But now to build it in 1:35 scale to go on this:

I have some photos I can estimate dimensions from, but it would be much easier if someone who has access to a real one, would be kind enough to measure it up

Thanks, that would be great Oh, and I forgot to mention: the length of the rails that the barrel rides in would be nice too

Here’s a quick sketch of the dimensions I’m after:

Default 2pdr recuperator

Hello Jakko, hopefully these pics and dimensions might help.
# Total length in metric 1100 mm, = tube 1050 + cone 50 ~
# Tube 110 mm diameter
# Rail 850 long from end, 110 wide, with +50 mm sides
# First band 150 mm from end, then 130 space, then 2nd band 130 mm wide
I don't have yet the cone/bolt protrusion.
Cheers

Thank you both! This should give me enough information to scratchbuild something that looks like the real thing, and get the BARV model finished

I thought I’d show you what I built based on Graeme’s measurements:

It’s not perfect, but it will look good enough under the BARV’s catwalk.

Now I just need to wait for the glue to dry so I can paint it and stick it onto the model

Nice work. That part would be a good start for you building me a model of the AT gun. Ron

Oh, but that’s rather easier:

Fifteen years ago, Vulcan released a kit of one in 1:35 scale, though it is hard to get hold of nowadays. There are a few more options, but most of those in 1:35 are even harder to get; 1:72 is easy enough, if you don’t mind buying Russian, anyway.

many years ago I was a happy 1:35 modeler, then went Full Scale ........ which requires more space than the back bedroom .... sigh ?
