Ignition wires
Does anyone have an off the shelf part number/brand for 8mm wires for the Chevrolet with 90 degree spark plug boots?

Unless you have gone over to an aftermarket ignition system, I would suggest you stick with 7mm solid core wires. The 8mm wires with carbon core are a bit challenging to the older points style ignition system. I cannot count how many vehicles at the museum that I have infinitely improved by getting rid of the carbon core wires others have installed and gone to the simple wire core. Personally, I buy the wire in bulk along with the terminals and boots from NAPA, and custom make the wires. They also have wire sets that are partly done, but you cut them to length and add the ends. There are proper terminal crimpers that save the headache of having the ends come off when you pull them. |

Catch 22........
Hi Rob
You can't use solid wires with Pertronix.......... I loved doing away with the points, condensers and associated headaches. So far the Pertronix system has been problem free. Had to use a NOS 216 dizzy on the 261 to gain critical additional clearance on the engine cover....... Pertronix fitted easily inside although a totally different module was required. Bob C

Agreed that the electronic ignition conversion is a different kettle of fish. But in my books, with the few miles we operate this equipment, the points usually work out just fine. I have not reached the stage of upgrading the museum's vehicles over to the solid state stuff yet. |
