Look what the King dragged in! "A flying shit box" - is that what it says on the door?

Anyway, looks like a "jailbar" Ford, made from 1942 till 1947, if I recall correctly.

Any dash plates denoting it is truck built for the military?

Definitely a Jail Bar Ford.

And, Flying Shit Box is what I read as well.

I would tend to think that the tipper body was not supplied originally with the chassis but I could be wrong. In any case, if you did not pay a lot of money for the beastie, it looks rather complete to me and there are not a lot of those vehicles left that can be restored.

One of the nice things about the arctic weather found in Canada, stuff seems to just survive instead of rusting into a pile as it does in the more temperate climates.

Thumbs up Ford dump

If I recall those Fords had a data plate on the inside of the glove box door with the VIN (engine number) gross weight date etc. The dump box looks to be the type of construction available in the forties and fifties so if it is not original it would have been there for a long time.

thansk guys, but i searched the internet and found where the serial number is on the frame. it is a 1947 ford 1.5 ton truck. oh well.
since i'm colour blind, my 10 year daughter xena was telling that the the truck has green paint on it. i asked her if it was kermit the frog green and she said no it is a flat green. that is when i thought it might be olive green. my buddys have stopped by and said the green is not olive green. oh well we had fun and here is the whole story with pictures.

i think i better start working on my 1945 chevy 3 ton truck that was my grandpa's. it is ex-military, sold for cilvian use. it has the wooden steering wheel, finned coil and fenders that did not crack out like allother chevys because they are different.

Default Comment On The King

Hi KoO - even though I have visited your website before, I have just spent about two hours going through the whole lot. We both obviously love "field trips" but what I appreciate is the contrast in conditions. We often do them in 37c whilst you do them in -37c. And the contrast in the countryside. The special things about your images is that you capture things like cooking breakfast, or the dunny, the accommodation, all the homely things. These are the sort of things that Ada and I also capture. Xena is a lucky girl to gain the education and experiences you give her. Best of luck to you.

Default 1947 Ford

Even though your Ford is not a wartime truck it is essentially the same as a 1942 model. You could build it in the style of a wartime truck.
