Default CF Rations

Can anyone out there tell me what the shelf life is supposed to be for modern Canadian Forces packaged rations? I have come accross some 2001 dated ones and wonder if they are still safe.

Default CF Rats

Hi Chris:

Rat pack life is stencilled on the outer cover of the master carton, usually 3 years. I've had rats issued for Field Training Exercises (FTX) "stale" dated by about 5-6 years.

Unofficially, they're good to go for 10 years.

Some items, like the chocolate bars, smarties and ju-jubes tend to get a bit funny looking, and hard to eat, otherwise, the entrees are good to go.

Great stuff around a camp fire with the Coleman stove and lantern hissing in the background, swatting mosquitoes and june bugs.

Cheers

Jon
