Default c8 british or canadian markings

Can any one tell me what these door markings mean ?
Cliff suspects they may be british or canadian
As far as i can see it says P/4/BOM over a black diamond

Mike suggested earlier quote-
Quote:
The diamond may indicate a armoured unit ..my first C8, a cab 12 , from 1981 , had the same diamond on it ..plus the 1st Aust. Armoured Div sign on the cowl. Z4544 was the reg. prefix too

Here is the Armour page from Stephen Talberts formation book. This shows the diamond but I am confused by the lettering as it is nothing I can find so far in Australian information I have which is why I beleive it may be British or Canadian.

Default S/m

The Z 4544.... number indicates that it was originally a C8 Personnel assembled in the UK under Demand S/M 2029, and then, as with others, shipped to the Mid-East and issued to the AIF.

Hi David

Yes, i still have the two ID plates from it with SM 2029 marked .And it was fitted with a Duple built body before being shipped out to the M.E. .. Seems that batch of thesem C8's were shipped home with AIF. Why did they choose C8's though and nil F8's. Same with the cab 12 3 tonners ex ME.. all Chevs ..no Fords.

Mike

Default S/M 2029 versus 2030

In addition to the ones mentioned we know that some C.8s were shipped directly to Alexandria and allocated Z 4548XXX numbers.

I just checked and there were F.8s supplied as a mixed bag under S/M 2030 to the UK, and assembled under Contract 294/V/4699 at Dagenham. These were then bodies by Mulliner and Stewart & Arden at least as Utility Cars. In addition a number were delivered as chassis-cabs and bodied as Wireless trucks, and delivered in England and to Egypt, the latter with sand tyres: see IWM photo KID 2088. There is no reason why F.8s could not have been supplied to the AIF, unless they were otherwise taken up by the NZEF or Indian Army?
