Default British tank DVD

For all those interested in WW2 British tanks, a DVD from the IWM archives, entitled British Tanks at War, 1941-1942. I was given it for Christmas and it was great to watch.

It is made up of five official films made by Army Film Unit, Directorate of Army Kinematography and Min. of Information.

Titles of films are;
Tank Battle - Valentines, MatildaII and Daimler Dingos feature in this large scale exercise in Sussex, 1942.
Ten Tips for Tackling Tanks - 1941 film instructing how to disable tanks with grenades, AT rifle, etc.
Spot That Tank! - hints on recognition of tanks and armoured cars, 1942
Tank Patrol - 1941 dramatisation of a Crusader and crew cut off from rest of unit in the Western Desert.
Birth of a Tank - 1942 showing construction of a Valentine tank

The first film was very fascinating for me, first shot is of a DR arriving at Brigade HQ on a BSA M20, the census number being only 98 away from my own M20. Then another of my favourites, the Daimler Dingo scout car, several appear in it and are the early Mk1a model, census numbers, F9704, F9995 and F10001. You can see a few interesting features, one, a Lakeman mounting, mentioned in a recent thread. Not good enough shot to be of use though.

Very good reproduction of these old films and I cannot wait to see any more that may come out.

Richard

Default Daimler Dingo

You'll love Year of the armoured car then... there's a feature on the South Aussie Dingo.

It will be available from next week in Pal and NTSC DVD.

Shameless plug!

I also enjoy the official films. Must see if there's some way I can make our own Aussie ones available on DVD.

Keith,

I will look to getting that then

The IWM have a whole host of DVD's using archive films, but very few of them on Army operations, mostly RAF and Navy.

Default IWM DVD

Gotta agree with you Richard,
Picked this DVD up 2 days ago from Hylands (a great military bookshop in Melbourne) and enjoyed it thoroughly.
