Here we have the NOS MB/ GPW trailer socket in it’s place on the trailer frame facing sideways . It’s a perfect fit , even the four holes are pre drilled for the bolts . Only problem is if installed this way the trailer plug is facing sideways when inserted . An invitation to have it ripped out . I surmise that seeing this , someone at Army design woke up and suggested it be installed facing rearward . I Will illustrate in the next insert ... more to follow ...

Default traÓler socket facing rearward

Here , this what i mean . The pictures from the manual posted by Jordan shows something on the left side. Because of the angle and it’s black & white we vaguely make it out . My suggestion is the trailer socket was put on a bracket on the left
facing the rear to plug the following trailer in a train , if they were so employed . I remain to see Canadian pictures of this ... Mystery solved , i think . What do you think Jordan ? Anyone else ?

The socket goes where you had it in the first picture down in the frame. Itís way more protected there then where you have it in the second picture. Also keep in mind the body as an assembly is removable from the frame and all of the wiring is located inside the frame.

Really nice work!

I am in the process of restoring a 10 CWT CDN trailer with a wooden cargo bed. It was quite original when I got it but the wood was mostly rotten and it have a few rust issues.

Only missing part is the lunette. Any chance you know of any spare lunetts for the 10 CWT?

Default 10 Cwt trailer

Thanks Jordan & Ed . Thatís where it will go . As far as an extra lunette sorry Frank i donít have one but they can be reproduced with a bantam / M101 lunette is my guess . Here we have the original harness . I will restore it with new wire and NOS lights and socket .

Default wiring

Hi folks . I am stumped : There are 4 wires on the Jeep pigtail ( black- white-red-green) while there are only 2 on the trailer pigtail and harness . I figure black is brake and white is park . The ground is normaly green in general electricity . What is red for ?

Found the answer on G503 : Green = tail light , Red = Stop light , Black is ground . White = Black out stop . There are just 2 wires on the trailer ... What happens with the White wire ?

The original wartime trailer cables only had three wires in a green cloth covered loom. In the manual for the trailer is a wiring diagram.

Thanks Jordan found it . I am going to improve my road survival chances by adding a second stop light on the right side . Originality is nice , survival to see another day is better .

Hi there folks . Found it . Black is stop and white is tail light . The stop light is always on. The tail lights are on when the differential ( round white ball ) light is off and conversely the tail lights are off when the white diff light is on at the switch . So you really only need two wires after all ! Red from the Jeep is ground to the frame of the trailer . The WW2 US Jeep as used by Canada also has 4 wires in the trailer socket : Black , White , Green and Red . The White from the US pigtail was for BO( Black- out ) Stop . It is not needed on the Canadian trailer so i will just cancel it . The 3 others are Stop- Tail- Ground . Simple isnít it ?
