Default CFR Number Information Requests Thread

**UPDATE 11 August 2015**

The EDR Viewer as we knew it is no longer available. There is a basic version of the database which is very limited in what information it contains, and the age of the vehicles that it covers.

Hey Fellas,

There are a few of us who are able to access the DND EDR Viewer which provides CFR information. The only issue at this time is that as new vehicles come into the CF/DND, old CFR info is "overwritten", so, more or less daily, the info on older iron decreases.

With a minimum of having your CFR or Mfg Serial Number, we are able to find details about the Units/Regiments your MV served with, as well as some basic maintenance/mileage history. The more info you can provide (Stickers, TAC Signs, Numbers, the Base you think it may have come from) the better as sometimes it can be a VERY time consuming search if all you have is a Serial Number.

CFR/CAR Number info in the Database is limited to:
M38A1CDN2 (1967-68 version),
M38A1CDN3 (1971 version),
M151A2,
Iltis,
CJ-7, YJ,
M35, M36, MLVW,
CUCV or 5/4,
Ferret,
Artillery,
M100 and other Trailers.

There is no Data available for:
M38CDN,
M38A1CDN (1953 version),
M37, M43, M152 or other variants of the Dodge Power Wagon,
M135, M211.

If I haven't listed it above, just ask

I've attached an example of the information on my M151A2 as it appears in the EDR Viewer in the pics below, and what it looks like when I export it to Excel and then paste it into a post here.

Scotty, any chance that you can pull up more info on my M38A1 CDN2 than you were able to before, or are you still limited to the info you can access from the DND server? The truck's CFR is 67-08251 and previously the info you gave me was missing the NSN, purchase price etc.

Thanks, Peter Z.

Sadly, no I can't at the moment.

There are two databases. One for which I presume is the Transport folks, and the other better one, the Supply and Maintainers etc.

Since I have moved to Gagetown, I can no longer access the better EDR Viewer due to some software issues.

With the watered down database, the older the Vehicle, the less info shows up, ie, for an M38A1/M151A2 only the last VMO appears. With the Iltis, all of the VMO appear.

1978 would have made it an M151 Trailer. There was no CFR pencilled under where the license plate used to be. Serial Number 0917.

Well here are a couple of screen shot pics of the info on your Jeep. Instead of 'pecking' my way through all the info to put it on here for all to see, I have copied the screen view of the listed information from the data base. Due to file type and size restrictions of this site for our attachments, I've converted to a .pdf file and even then had to split that so it could be attached. Hope this works for you.......Cheers,

Craig

Sadly, I can't seem to access that EDR Viewer anymore Craig. My only recourse now is to just copy and paste what is listed in the other one.

Here are some screen shot pics in .pdf format. Interestingly enough the last time I saw this bike was about November of 2002 while posted to 2VP. Three KLR's were being turned in for disposal at that time. Even before I looked up the info I knew where this bike had been...Cheers,

Craig

P.S.- You will notice maintenance records seem to have been using the same date frequently starting in 1995. Someone must have been asleep at the wheel I would guess...

Hi Greg -

I've got all the info for your Iltis. However - I have to break it all into smaller size bites due to the attachment restrictions on our postings. It will be converted to a .pdf format as well later tonight hopefully. Time to get the chicken off the BBQ right now though. Cheers,

Craig

Here it is in three parts & 49 different screen shots. Iltis info is normally plentiful - they were always in for maintenance - aha-ha-ha. Cheers,

I will look tomorrow. It may take longer for me to get an answer unless I luck out. There are about 2000 of these trailers (I'm guesstimating) that individually need to have each file opened to check for a matching serial number. Hopefully the CFR and serial numbers were assigned in order numerically. As I've seen from other motorized CFR'd equipment, that is not the case however. Trailers may be different. As well I would suggest that if you find a 5 digit number marked on your trailer (or even 3 digit - as in the CFR's last three digits) in marker, chalk, pencil crayon, etc., that may be part of your trailers CFR. As mechanics and supply pers we sometimes mark parts ordered for a specific vehicle or trailer so that repair part would be put on to the item it was ordered for. Marking the CFR of the equipment onto the ordered part quickly identifies it when that new part is sitting amongst a pile of parts on the shelf awaiting install. So if you find a 5 or 3 digit number on say a pintle hitch, wheel or park brake handle - it may be a clue to finding that needle in a 2000 piece haystack....Cheers,

Craig

By what I could see the trailers were all over the place for CFRs. Some were around the 16000 range, some were much higher. With the speed of searches here, it was impossible for me to find Brad's.

What I have noticed though, was that the CFRs (and serials somewhat) seemed to grouped together by where the trailer's were issued. So if you know from which base or area the trailer came from, it can be compared to other trailers from that area with a known CFR.

I bought 28 of these trailers from one unit and they were all pretty much in sequence CFR wise. Serials were reasonably tight, although they did span several hundreds overall.

Craig is right on the money about the 5, or possibly 3 digits. They were often grease pencilled under the license plate.

The one trailer 0033 was purchased here in Western Canada (B.C specfically)
It has ben repainted by the previous owner. So there is no chance of finding any markings on it.

The other Trailer 1149 I will look over tommrow for any scribbles. It came from Southern Ontario.

Just to let you know - I just finished locating both CFR's for your trailers and I'll have the info edited for you tomorrow sometime.

T. Alcorn -

I'm still going through the list at this time....

Interestingly out of 1974 trailers listed, 20 are still in service out there at various locations.

Thanks Again Craig.
This infomation will be added to each Trailers file folders.

I'm surprised that both trailers came from eastern Canada.
The One I trucked back here. But the other was bought here.

I had Scotty pull up the info on my M1010 Ambulance and my other 2 Iltises

But I was wondering if you could pull it as well so I have the actual copies of the Infomation from the EDR Veiwer for each vehicles file folder.

You have done so much already and I do not want to be pain in the arse
.
So there is no rush on these, but if you have a spare moment I would really appreciate it.
The CFR's are 77626 ,86091,87423

Matthew

If it helps out, I have 2R22 chalked on the front below the Dataplate, but, on back of the left bumper, I have the tactical symbol for 2/5 Mechanized Infantry, see attached photo.
