Wartime T16 pictures (#2)
We used to have a thread "Wartime T16 pictures", but this seems to have gone missing. So here is another try.
First read A brief history of the T-16 Carrier on my website for background info. I wrote this article for Geoff W-B's The Carrier Platoon web site (now defunct) where it was originally published in 2001. In 2004, I added the page The T-16 Carrier in use with the Canadian Army to my website. TCP.png

Dutch civilians swarm over carriers of the Eighth Recce Unit in welcome as the Canadians move into a village near Beveland Canal. (Zuid-Beveland).
This photo was made at Wolphaartsdijk, 30 October 1944. I cannot see if these are T16 Carriers, but they are towing 6-pdr AT guns. 98072894_1138907309779809_4027714781367500800_n.jpg Source: https://beeldbankwo2.nl/en/imagebank...7-435755e36040

T16 question
Can anyone tell me the purpose of the small rectangular metal plates, with tapped holes in them, that are situated along the top of the sides and on the front armor as clearly seen in posts 7 & 8?

Here are some more collected from the internet over the years.
The picture with the crew sitting on the 6pdr is from the same set of vehicles as in your post #2

The Canadian discussion during 1943/1944, of universal carriers being adapted to tow Ordnance QF 6-pounder and Trailer, 10-Cwt, produced an estimate of towing hooks required. As indicated in the following estimate, November, 1944: Recce Regts had a requirement for either 12 or 18 towing attachments each, for their 6pr A Tk establishment. Ed, I imagine there will be supporting detail to indicate the actual deployment of the 6pr with these two Recce Regts in the N.W.E. theatre? At present, an image of a Cdn Recce Regt universal carrier deployed, ‘44/‘45 towing a 6pr in N.W.E. is elusive. . Last edited by Michael R.; 16-02-24 at 18:48. |

I believe the red arrow is pointing to the unit shoulder title and the blue arrow is pointing to the division patch. Does that change your assessment?
