Default Info Needed-Fuel Primer M38A1

My 67. M38A1 has a primer handle on the fuel pump and a primer pump on the dash but no connection between the two. When left for a week or two the jeep takes several tries before it starts acting like it requires fuel. Can I pump the primer handle at the fuel pump to re-prime the carb or should I pull the choke?

Thanks in advance,

lesk
