New Brunswick FGT cab 11

This was just sent to me by a chap named Eric who has just acquired it.

I don't have any details other than he's looking for some headlights and the square V8 badge. Funny he hasn't mentioned the rear body yet(!)

Is anyone familiar with this truck?

New Brunswick is a relatively small place by comparison to Oz, but no, this truck is a new one to me. i remember hearing a story of a fellow, near the miramichi river, who operated some sort of military museum, who had an old gun tractor but i never persued it any further. other than that, no other tractors were known to me. hope "eric" gets onboard here....the more cmp nuts down here, the better!!!

"First switch notch indicated by upper nameplate"

Did all Ford cab 11s use pull switches instead of toggles found in cab 12s?

How do you know if the axle is Chev

And for the Landy is my little tractor do all my stuff whit it and i have rebilt a landrover 1970 for my broder work like a charm

Keith of the two New Zealand Cab 11s' that I know of one had toggle switches the other had pull knobs as shown. Perhaps the one with the toggle switches had a replacement dash fitted?

Amplifying, this was initially down to the allocation of sourcing that was originally agreed. See the other thread. Also the 1940 Axle was deemed not strong enough. I have a photo of F15A trucks being assembled in Southampton with Chev front axles. Although 47 ‘early Ford F.15A’ trucks had a G.M. banjo-type rear axle and Ford split-type front axle, parts lists now prove that they were 1941 Models. In 1940 it was stated that Rzeppa design Universal Joint and axle shafts as fitted by Ford to the front of 4 x 4 Trucks were interchangeable with the G.M.-used Bendix-Weiss, but Ottawa suggested that both right- and left-assemblies of the same type be fitted rather than mix-and-matc

Eric, Mac's Auto in the US have the "Ford" script logo listed as either part no 91A-16606 or 01A-16606C. You will have to measure the pin holes to ensure you get the right badge. Mac's also have a badge similar to the later cab 13 CMP grille badge listed as 50-16606.

The part no for the original dash badge was 01A-16606-A. I don't know what the difference between the -A and -C badges may be?

Chevrolet CMPs had conventional "banjo type" differentials so-called because they were accessible from the front with an oval cover plate that reminds of the banjo instrument. These were produced by The McKinnon Industries Limited in St. Catherines, Ontario in a factory announced April 1932. The differential was a fully floating hypoid design.

The Fords had a Timken-type differential, as it was either produced by or copied from, a Timken Axle Corporation, Detroit (Timken-Detroit) design. Tinken-Detroit also supplied axles for US-built GMC, Chevrolet and Oldsmobile trucks. This design split vertically hence "split-type" axle, and the differential was a fully floating spiral design.

However, some 4 x 4 Fords used Chevrolet front and rear axles, as you can see from the photograph, although the 4 x 2 Chevrolets and Fords used a Reverse Elliott I-Beam [possibly standard Chevrolet or Ford design], with a fully floating hypoid rear axle (banjo) and fully floating spiral rear axle (split-type) respectively.

In addition, 47 1941 Model Ford F.15A 4 x 4 trucks had a GM banjo-type rear axle and Ford split-type front unit.

Ford used Rzeppa design steering Universal Joints and axle shafts and these were interchangeable with the Bendix-Weiss versions uded on Chevrolets, but in 1940 it was agreed that right-and left-assemblies of the same type should be fitted rather than left and right of each design.

All your questions can be answered from the parts and maintenance manuals I recommended in an earlier post..
The pictures in the manuals alone are well worth the price..These manuals are the bible for CMP restorers.
