Default Ferret Accident

Thanks for the calls guy but it was not me involved in the collision between a Ferret and train on the weekend. My thoughts go out to those involved and hope for a positive outcome and full recovery.

Default Further info

Quote from "The West Australian" newspaper,

"War vehicle, train collide.

A World War II armoured scour car vehicle crashed into a freight train
travelling at 100km/h in the Wheatbelt yesterday afternoon, blocking
the line for several hours and causing delays to rail services.
The 47 year old driver of the wartime vehicle suffered serious injuries
when he tried to cross the railway line at Walgoolan, 20 km east of
Merriedin, at 3.30pm.
The 1.5km long freight train knocked the armoured vehicle off the railway
line and into a culvert 5m away. The line was cleared by 8pm.
The train driver was unhurt."

G'day All, In another forum it was posted and ?? maybe presumed that the person involved was a member of that forum and if so, also a member in this forum as well, I won't divulge the person's name just in case it isn't him, in any case I hope that he comes through OK cheers Dennis

Someone has already indicated (on the other site that Dinty to which referred), that it wasn't Phill, but Ross W.

Default Not me but...

Ive just returned from a business trip to Perth and found out third hand about this acccident.

Not me nor my vehicles involved, however I Know Ross W very well, and have worked on that particular Ferret as well as driven it several times including driving it for previous Army Cadet weekend much the same as the one which led to this accident.

I am behind the eight-ball so to speak but I have been led to believe that as of 2pm today Ross is still in an induced coma with multiple injuries and fears are held re possible brain injury.

I'm sure I don't need to paint a picture of what it must have been like for him to be hit by a freight train in full flight in the Ferret.

I believe the vehicle's turret became detached and the hull crushed in on one side by the impact !

From memory not all of the rubber pads were still fitted and I believe Ross had no helmet on at the time.

Lets all wish him well and a speedy and full recovery...

subdued cheers

Phill

Default Wishes for a fast recovery

Though I have never met him,

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ross and his family at this time.

Here's hoping for a fast recovery for Ross, so he can get back to the hobby we all love.

Pedr.

P.S. Please guys remember always "safety first", This is our second member who has had a close call with a train.

Default The latest...

Information is a little sketchy still but here is what I know -

He was due to be brought out of the induced coma yesterday afternoon but that has been delayed due to his condition. He may also have a broken neck in addition to pelvis, arm, collar, skull etc.

I don't want to infringe on the Family's privacy any further so I will ask that we all just remain patient and hope for a positive outcome.

As has been previously expressed Ross is a life long enthusiast and serious heavy armour collector, and although he is not active on the MLU or club scene is well respected and liked by many of us.

Speculation on the circumstances leading up to the collision continues and I won't buy into it. Just lets wait and see.

I have heard and I sincerely hope that he would have no knowledge literally of what has happened.

I hope to be able to pass on the sentiments of fellow MLUers in person at an appropriate time in the future...

Subdued cheers

Phill

I have a request of the Admins / Moderators / readers of this thread.

Can we please just discuss the condition of Ross, not speculate as to any causes of the accident.

Geoff, I am sending you a PM now about why.

This thread was never updated or closed.

Can anyone shed any light on how the gentleman made out in his recovery and what was the final result for the vehicle?

R

The gentleman in question passed away due to severe injuries associated with the accident. Not sure what happened to the Ferret but I am told that the driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out by rescue crews.
