Graeme,

This carrier was put up for auction during August 2003 by the same seller with the same text and picture. It attracted 19 bids from US $1 up to US $4,550.00, failing to make it's reserve.

I see this time at least one of us has put in a bid! From what I see I'd say this is a very good carrier, I am curious as to what it's reserve price is.

Hanno

Default UC on E-Bay

I talked to the seller a couple of weeks ago and he indicated he wanted $10500 US $ for it. He also said he turned down an offer of $7700 US.
When this came up last year someone thought it had a $5000 reserve, but that is not the case this time.
It certainly has a lot of potential. It appears as though the armour was cut in front of the driver and the piece put back in. On the plus side, it appears to have hard to get pieces like the tool locker, the bren loading tool box, the antenna mount, the AA stem mounts, the barrel box..... If someone does scrape up the coin it will save him years of hunting by having these right off the bat.
Owner said he was turning over the engine occasionally back in the 70s, but the selling agent last year indicated the engine was siezed, as could be expected after this many years.
It appears someone started stripping off the wiring and oil lines/fuel lines, so hopefully all the parts are there.
Man, this carrier makes me hungry for another. BTW, I am CMPman on E-bay; I currently have the high bid on this but I think it will be pointless.

Default carrier for sale

To anyone who knows!
I have been following this carrier on the e-bay auction for a few days, and I would like to know what the apparatus is on the right rear of the vehicle. I e-mailed the seller and he sent me a bunch of photos that are not on the auction site. One is a good close up of the bracket, but I can"t tell what it is.
By the way, I am sorry to hear that both of you Hanno and Nigel won"t be at Beltring this year. I guess I will have to buy all the good T-16 parts. I will also drink a couple beers for the two of you!
Thanks Rod Shaver

Rod,

Here is the bracket of which you speak ( as the extra pix are in wide distribution ). It is the early antennea mount. In the early days ( when Alex Blair was younger ) the radio antenna did not whip forward, you had to flop the whole thing out of the way. There is a curved brace near the driver to hold the other end.

Have fun at Beltring.

Stewart
Have you seen this carrier or is this one of the photos that were sent out?
It is a fairly early carrier judging by the brackets for the track straining bar and the rubber steps treads on the rear steps. (These indicate the first couple of thousand for production, the rubber was replaced by steel decktread fairly early on.) The photos aren't clear enough to show if it has the horn bracket hole.
I wonder what the little plate holder is to the left (or right as you sit in the drivers seat) of the mirror?

Default Not Seen

Rob,

I have not seen this one myself, but did get a hockey sock full of pix from the sellers internet helper.

I cannot determine what that small bracket is - although it looks as if some sort of ID may have slipped into that area.

If anybody picks this one up, let me know and I will help with the recovery.

Default I got it

$8500 didn't meet the reserve either, but Brad drove the price up at the last few minutes and the seller offered it in a second chance purchase for the last recorded bid price of $8420 US. I must be crazy to spend this kind of money on a unrestored carrier but then again how often does one show up with this potential.
Sorry to Brad who's similar obsession spurred me on.

Rob,

Yes, you are crazy, but look at the fun that you are going to have!

Congratulations, and welcome to the club.

Thanks for the confirmation of my psychological condition. I've been in the carrier club before but this will be my best one.

I'm hoping to pick it up around the August long weekend.

Just can't stay away from the "veh-tech" role, eh Rob?
Funny enough though as I'm sure parts are easier to source than say, Iltis goodies and the more current CF stuff. That and the fact that you don't have to go to Bosnia to have fun fixing her.

Alex,

People may wonder why you call my lovely wife by the name you do - so I snapped a picture of her in the garage last week - getting ready for a show in St. Mary's Ontario.
