Default 70 years ago today

Given it is the anniversary of the Dam Busters raid today I have produced a short video on another event that was happening at the same moment the 617 Squadron Lancasters were roaring over Germany. A flight of Hampdens from 415 Squadron was engaging enemy vessels off the Dutch coast. Pilot of L6055, coded GX-D was my uncle Keith Wathen who did not return from that mission. I have put this tribute together in his memory.

Smartly done! Two of my father's uncles were RCAF aircrew and lost on raids. I think one is memorialized in the Kiel Canal wall.

Default More than a tribute to one man

Hi

More than just a tribute to Keith Wathen, but to a tribute to all those who served.

Makes you think of the big thick old family albums with a hundred or so black pages covered with photos held in with those little corner squares that tell the story of our parents lives from birth to old age.

But this one only 25 pages are covered in photos the rest are blank.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers Phil

Default Full Moon Tonight

Well done Keith

Australian singer/songwriter Grant Luhrs has a song that he performs titled 'Full Moon Tonight' that was written as a tribute to the airmen of Bomber Command. He has really captured something and whenever its played I have to stop and listen. I find it quite moving.

The song is included in Macca's Top One Hundred and is sometimes played on his Sunday morning program 'Australia Allover'. It is also available on an album titled 'Full Moon Tonight' available through Grant's web site at grantluhrs.com.au.

Default Terrific

Very well done Keith.

This piece youve done on your Uncle could represent hundreds of thousands of blokes who had very similar lives in this era.

I really enjoyed watching it.

Default Full Moon tonight

That is almost the title of the famous book by Don Charlwood whom I interviewed some years ago in Warrandyte. His was No Moon tonight, the story of his experience in Bomber Command.
