Vokes filter body for LP2 Carrier
Hi Guy's
Is anybody able to post some photos of a vokes filter body housing, I need detail of the bottom section as I have nothing to work from. Rebuilding a pair from scratch rolled the main bodies already ,need also to confirm some detail of the top section. The two mounting flanges at the top are seperate component from the outlet pipe which comes up through the centre ?????. Cheers Craig

Hi Craig, I have yet to answer your email. I will.
Craig I have converted one to a modern paper element. I used an AF437K. I un riveted and removed the ring from inside the pump end and introduced a spring to hold the element seal to the other end of the housing. The element is loaded by un bolting the alloy end, dropping in the spring and then the element, then refitting the alloy end. I did this for my (riveted) carrier which has a single filter and is inside the engine cover. The opening in the housing faces down and so the modern element cannot be seen. It may not suit you.

Big thank you for those photos, that's a great help. Can somebody confirm the thread type for the screws and if you can source that vintage slotted style anywhere.
Cheers Craig

There's a chap over on HMVF that made new filters for these casings. He hand sewed a bunch of felt discs with a spring so it works as an original should. The Vokes filter itself is seen on a variety of Pommy lorries, from Bedfords to Guys, and other types of Carriers as Lynn points out.
The filter is pretty well hidden by the seat back in an LP, so you'll get away with a modern element. I've got a different type for my LP2, which has a filter that looks quite similar to a modern filter anyway, so nobody will tell the difference.
