What is unusual about this Sigvan?
I've been scanning Ron Fry's photo albums which he kindly loaned me when I came across the attached image of a Wireless Signals van on a C15 chassis (WO73) model.
Having a closer look something struck me which I've never seen on one of these before. Can you pick it?

Box
That's quite often seen - it's a variation of the AALMG mount.
And before anyone gets smart it's not that it's rusty or has a flat tyre either.

canvas doors
All the photos I have of this wireless type truck show them all fitted with normal steel doors. This one was fitted with canvas doors.

Keith I am always amazed at how little differences like this are relatively unknown and not seen often. While we all have so much knowledge of these vehicles there is always something new to discover. Hopefully we have not lost a lot of this uniqueness through old vehicles being scrapped by folk who don't realise just what they accually have.

On one of the Dodge Weapons Carriers here in Victoria, a yellow 4inch circle around the Allied Star on the bonnet was uncovered when it was sanded back. The owner then painted the circle in white as he thought it looked better. thus destroying the history of the vehicle. Yellow circles around the Allied Star in white were a requirement only for "Operation Husky", the invasion of Sicily in July 1943. You beat me to it Cliff. I have never seen canvas doors on a radio van either. Regards Rick

This truck is a bitza , the cab is off a late model 4x4 Blitz fitted to a C15 wireless van and the dash plate is off a C60X . In the picture attached you will see a very crude attempt to marry the cab which has the back cut away to the body of the wireless van. As you would be aware the chassis on a C15 is narrower at the front than the 4 wheel drive so the side cab mounts do not match up . The vehicle is a parts truck only . Regards Jim S.

C15
I am restoring/repairing my C15 Wireless van for Lang's trip and am using the parts truck to help out with bits and pieces where ever they can be used .

The C60X dash plate was from a RAAF refueller. Of course the sigvan was built in both a C15 (WO73) and C15A (WO12) version with the standard cab - be interesting to compare to see how the factory did it.

C15 v's C15A

Probably by having the side cab mounts iether wider or narrower apart to suit the chassis used . The interior wheel arches are different on the C15 most likely to allow for the sharper turning radius which is why the chassis narrows at the front . I read in the Holden book that GMH made 3 different cabs for CMP's , 4x4 , 2 wheel drive , 6x6. Regards Jim S.
