CMP question

Hi everyone,
As I am not a CMP specialist, but I know that there is many variant, is there any book or site that give some description of diferent configuration of CMP used by the canadian army ? Chevy and Ford?
I want to model some different subject based on the CMP but i don't have a lot of info or pics

Now, now. Those of us in the know understand that there are at least three types of gunners and the motto "Ubique" has a slightly different connotation for each:

Air Defence Gunners: UBIQUE = Everywhere (applicable particularly when firing Bofors/Boffin and rogue missiles);
Locating Gunners: UBIQUE = Somewhere?? (pretty pink and orange tents thru the div area); and
Steam (AKA Mud and Field) Gunners: UBIQUE = all over the place (for our 5e RALC cousins = Rounds All-over La Campagne...).

Now, have you heard the legend behind the Gunner badge ...the gun that can't be fired...?

There are a lot of stories involving both fine units. Two come readily to mind, but I will stick to the Gunner side of the house...

One story involves the wearing of the white lanyard by the Gunners. Some say that the white lanyard was a mark of shame for losing the guns...or some other offence.

I have the "real" story, but it would be interesting to hear some of the other "theories" on why, at one time or another, Gunners wore the white lanyard.

Any takers (C/S Gunner and his ilk are not invited to this party...)?

To continue on with the first question about the legend of the badge: We've established the gun can't be fired, we also have the crown that can't be worn, the wheel that can't be turned (less officers' badges); the grass that can't be cut, and something to do with a reluctant naval knot...

BK's vehicle stuck in mud. Calls on battery net: "1 this is 18, send recovery to my position over. 1, roger, are you stuck, over? 18, negative, the mud is too high..."

Young FOO in his properly sited OP with tech, the Colonel Commandant and a nervous IG. A round from a Quebec based battery impacts within 100 meters of the trench showering them with crap. Col Cmdt, with ice-water running thru his veins, and thinking it was their round calmly asks, Well? Robert. What's your correction? Sir, if it was my round, the correction would be "reference my ass, add 800, Check Firing! Over".

One for the 5 RALC vets: Primer only, Load! How I wished I got a copy of the photos of the 105mm round sticking halfway out of the muzzle of the gun...you tell kids this nowadays, and they won't believe you.

Yup, and the silly bugger tried to convince me that enemy helicopters would follow the demi-banderoles all the way to the gun positions and wipe out the guns... "all your fault, Calnan, you and those pink tents!"

He also ordered the batteries to camoflage paint three sides of the aiming posts so that enemy spetznaz couldn't find the gun positions based on the red and white barber poles... ten tons of truck times six, two tons of gun times six, more noise and smoke than you could handle sometimes and he was worried about some one inch diameter red and white aiming posts... holy rat poop, Batman!

Then again, on my very first day on an M109 gunline after surviving Phase training, I had the BSM come up to me, perform a perfect sniper check and suggest to me that my rolled up sleeves and hairy arms would give away the gun position... of course I couldn't hear a word he said because the gun we were standing beside had just belched a twenty foot long tongue of flame as it launched a 155mm round sixteen klicks downrange. I had trouble seeing him clearly as well; the thick cloud of cordite smoke was stinging my eyes and obscuring my vision... nonetheless, being a keen young 2nd Lieutenant, I rolled my sleeves down to set a good example to the troops.

Maybe we need a new heading: "The Gun Shed".

Good idea...remember AIGs asking questions of the young safety officer (my pet peeve...later) just as the M109s went into Fire for Effect...got caught once...still have a hate on for the white shower caps!
