Default New Years Drive Challenge 2020

New Years Drive Challenge

For a number of years I have had a personal New Year resolution or challenge to take my military vehicles out for a drive on New Years Eve or more exactly early New Years Day. Some years it happens a little later, but the goal is to start my MV driving year off early and right, so I extend the invitation to join in and share your drive.

Just to explain no military vehicles are exposed to the road salt, of our winter climate in New Hampshire, the drive is restricted to local dirt road.

Who in the MLU community be the first to drive their MV in 2020?

Cheers Phil

PS As it stands now only two of the three CMPs will be ready to drive. The HUP (aka BEAST) and the Pat 13 C60S (aka BEAUTY) are up and running. For some strange, or as yet unknown reason, the 1941 Pat 12 C60L which ran fine all fall and refused to start a weeks ago. I even got it an early Christmas present of a new battery yesterday but so far no joy.

Hi Phil,

I have liked this idea from day one, so it's good to see you posted this years challenge!

Sadly no driving CMP's at my place yet...I will at least try to spend some hours in tha garage to work on mine!

No drive for me, after finishing fire brakes I left the dozer parked behind the blitz and was too lazy to move it at midnight.

So here is wishing you all a Happy New Year and many miles of happy CMP driving.

My special wishes for our friends in Australia, may you have cooler days and gentle rains to get things back to normal.

Robert I was thinking of you when I posted the challenge this year, almost didn't because of the bad conditions you are seeing, but then thought of all the years that CMPs served in the fire service down your way and thought no it is appropriate.

Cheers Phil

Happy New Years to all of us here on the forum

Sadly no drive or startup for me today. I’m just not prepared to rush it as I’ve got a number of small things I want to do first. But 2020 is the year of the Wire-3 going back on the road after a long long time.

Guys,

It was a blustery 1'C here in Cherry Valley.

Wishing all a great New Year, in particular I can only hope that conditions improve for all the people of Australia with their current ordeal.

Peter

Happy New Year from Howe Island Ontario

Took work's Land Rover Wolf around the farm to check the corn and then took the Kawasaki KLR 250 for a ride from ferry to ferry on the island.

When I went to put the bike away it disgraced itself by pissing it's fuel out even though the fuel tap was put in the off position. A real fault on these machines, had to hand bomb the fuel out. That is the third fuel tap in 3 years.

My thanks to Phil Waterman for starting the challenge.

I did drive the blitz yesterday afternoon to pick up all the outdoor furniture and park it in the shed. Still putting in fire brakes and hoping for the best. A lot of friends have lost everything where I used to live. Have been told Mum's old house is gone but mine is still there so can be used for emergency accommodation.

Default Happy New Year from the Barn......

Weather was very mild this year hovering around 0 Celsius with a fresh coat of snow overnight with barely 8 inches on the ground. Being very wet sticky snow 2 wheel drive was useless with wheels spinning on ground. Best was 4x4 in low range. No challenge busting through deep snow this year.

All the Best for the New Year to All MLU members and their family.....and some rain for Australia.

Grant, Rob and myself.

Default Burnaby snow

Actually we usually get a token day of snow every year, last year and this have been a little different. The new Years day video however was too nice, but not that commen this time of year.
Last year 2 of my neighbours did not make that turn and spun all the way to the bottom taking out a telephone pole. The fire truck then lost it and crashed into the wall. Slicker than homeless crap as we say.

Default Non Drectional

Hi Harry

I missed your post of the lovely New Years Drive, nice job. Glad you didn't have the weather of your most recent video for the New Years Drive. From the looks of that snow and your local terrain of steep hills and sharp turns, I'm afraid the C60 would have demonstrated the true meaning Non-Directional Tires going four different directions simultaneously.

Thanks for taking part in the fun.

We have had a very strange winter here in New Hampshire, we have gone from 2 foot plus of snow on the ground to bare ground twice already this winter. It got up to 60F over the weekend for two days. Even the big snow piles from plowing disappeared.

With the warm weather I did manage to entice my Pat 12 C60L out of the garage after two months of refusing to start. But that's a story for another post.

The New Years Challenge is not just New Years day, my driving New Years has started in March or April. The challenge is get out and enjoy our CMPs.

Cheers Phil
