Default PM vs Visitor message

Lately a couple guys have been sending me PMs through a new means of "visitor messages". Rather than going to my in box, I go to my user name where the messages show up. Problem with guys using these is that they are visible to anyone who goes on your page, and if you don't delete them they remain there for all to see. I checked on a couple other guys pages and sure enough, their visitors messages were there.

With information visible to anyone, it may be possible to have information you did not mean to post openly available to anyone who has managed to get onto the forum, even as a visitor. Things like when you will be away from your home (attending parades or overseas trips), your address, phone numbers etc.

Everyone should know that the visitors messages are not secure....I would recommend not to use them.

Rob - as soon as I have my home computer problems sorted I had intended on trying to figure out how to turn them off - they're kind of redundant anyway.

Everyone - please use the PM or email functions if you need to contact other members separately, thanks!

Angry yep

I , by chance, noticed the same thing the other day . I clicked on somebody's Avatar by mistake , and I was party to all these intimate Visitor messages ...

Hmm .... really makes one think about the comments I've made via PM's Phew

Mike

I've finally found the options to turn OFF ' Visitor Messaging ' as well as the ' Social Groups ' and ' Friends ' sections, things which I don't think any of us really use (for instance, if you don't know who your friends are, you're probably in serious trouble ), so unless you have significant objections, I will do so in another 12 hours. Please save any messages you may wish to keep in the interim, and use PMs or the email function to contact other members privately.

Lately when I've received a PM I get it twice, sometimes with the same time stamp and other times one to two minutes apart
