Default WW11 Gerry Can

Just been given a 1944 Gerry Can by a good friend with some interesting items attached. Looks like identification tags but are they from the same era? It will go on my Morris C8 of course. It's in great shape for the age.

Hello,

Nice 1944 British can with NATO modern product ID tag holder .

You see these on German modern Jerry Cans all the time in US surplus stores.

My guess is the can was upgraded with the tag holder before being surplussed .

Cheers.

Bob

Thanks Bob and it's a pity these things don't talk, it has obviously traveled extensively.

Default Mystery Gerry Can markings

Good day,

I was just given the Gerry can in the attached photo by an old friend who is moving home and downsizing and was going to throw it out if I didn't take it.

I suspect it is just a cheap Chinese knock-off but then I thought maybe the 3 diamonds on the side was similar to the logo used by Mitsubishi. Perhaps a JSDF Gerry can? Had a good search of the web but could find no match.

Anybody have any info on this? Aussie disposals sold lots of Jerry cans over the years although he said he bought it at an antique and curio shop many years ago. I fear he may have been ripped off as he paid $50 for it.

If it is just a crappy Chinese one it will be going back to them on a scrap metal ship on the next hard rubbish collection. If it is of no value and of some use to someone I will pass it on. It is not really appropriate For a Ford CMP truck in any case.

Cheers,

Jacques
