Default Shell I.D. ??

Recently acquired a shell marked "75mm M18 8/1941 Lot 112 CL/C" on the brass base and "SE 12660 NSC 38" on the yellow painted projectile which has 14 red X's painted around the nose and a green stripe painted midway up the body.

I'm thinking Lee/Grant tank from the Western Desert or maybe a very early Sherman round ? Any help appreciated.
