Default Hard Top Closure M38 CDN

Wondering if this hard top on the Canadian M38 is part of the cold weather kit for Canadian Issue, also wondering about this heater set up, is this correct ?

The heater is not the normal installation. There should have been a tray on the cowl with a Stewart Warner Southwind gas heater, which would feed the heat through the opening on the windshield. Not sure what the heater you show is from. Certainly the military would not install a heater with the hoses exposed like that.

A lot of ‘interpretation’ going on with that vehicle.

I think that hard cab was actually part of an ‘Arctic’ kit for the M38CDN. For ‘Cold’ weather, the canvas top assembly would have been retained, but the heater as described by Rob fitted. It actually mounted on the tray directly in front of the Driver with the exhaust running up that corner of the windscreen to just above the roofline. Fuel and electrical line runs were very discrete.

I think Rob is referring to the South Wind 978-M heater...the same one was fitted to the US-built M38's for cold weather service. The kit came with a vent duct that diverted heat to the windscreen, passenger floor area and cowl battery box. The heater kit also had a canvas cover for the radiator grill.

The hard cab looks identical to the US-built one off my M38, other than some very slight difference with the data plate?

Owen.

Default Hard Top

Interesting heater installation, hoses and exposed blower motor just does not look right, the heater box is questionable also as to what it might have fit.

The Hard top, is probably original to the M38 CDN, looking at the hard top data tag, CDN-395018.
