The jeeps supplied to the Aust forces were assembled locally under contract. The contracts were raised and awarded for each 'batch' of arriving jeeps (and all other vehicles supplied under lend lease). Ford was only one of several regular contractors for assembly, the contracts often dependent on the port of delivery.

Good information. I did find a jeep assembly contract for the Chrysler dealer in Sydney, Harden & Johnson. I wonder if Ford Aust. ( or some other contractor ) had a assembly centre in Port Moresby.

Referring to the pics. The two guys on the Left, they look like they are civilian employees. The other chaps are definitely PNG residents.

Many of the AWM pic descriptions are somewhat vague . If they are ANGAU guys in the pics , the chances are the scene is in PNG.

No, it is Homebush, NSW. The PNG and ANGAU members are on a visit.

Yeah I thought it was likely to be a visit to Australia but I wasn't 100% sure. I didn't read the text !

I did find pics in the Argus newspaper collection , of the Americans assembling CKD CCKW trucks in PNG - or so the pic caption says.
