Mystery battery cover 5803858
I have this battery cover with chalked part number 5803858, presumably Chev/GM. It has 7.5" hole spacing for the tray studs: compared to the 11" hole spacing on common CMP's. Box is 9.5"X11.25" X 9" tall. This part number does not appear in common Chev CMP books or Otter or Fox parts books. There is ways a chance that the part number is wrong. Any ideas?

Looks like.....
.... the battery boxes we reprod to fit our batteries sideways at the back of the running board.
I beleive that certain CMP had batteries mounted sideways.....(Seems I have seen some on factory photos) not sure why..... we did ours to accommodate modern size 12 volts batt. Cheers

Attached are pics of a repro Chevrolet battery box, as in Dave's picture this is mounted perpendicular to the vehicle axis, as in 90 degrees rotated from it's normal way of mounting (parallel to the vehicle axis).
I think your cover fits over this type of battery holder.

Bob, Dave and Hanno,
Thanks for the leads on this battery cover. Perhaps the Wireless Body necessitates the forward positioning of the gas tank and then the battery has to be squeezed in sideways. I have one of these covers available. ......Brian |

is there a possibility....
...that the wireless was converted to 12v. for the radios and they installed a 12 volt batt. which needs more space....?
On the cab 11 there is absolutely no space to move the gas tank forth or aft and the same should apply to the cab 13 wheel base set up. Hanno that is exactly what we reproduced using dimension from modern 12 volt batteries in the 35 size series. Cheers
