Default Tanks used by 142nd Royal Tank Regt.

Gents:


I have what appears to be conflicting info. with regard to the type of tank issued to members of 142nd Royal Tank Regt. in Italy, 1944.

While working on account of 4th PLDG's breach of "Hitler" Line on 22nd May, 1944 I have found info. that would appear to suggest that the afforementioned regt. was in Shermans during this engagement (two troops were assigned the support of 4th PLDG's assault).

Another source mentions Churchills, though this one seems less credible.

Could any of you clever lads clarify which of these was, in fact, the vehicle mounted by the 142nd ?

The following story by a member of the 142 Regiment Royal Armoured Corp. indicates that one-half of the Churchills were exchanged for Shermans before the Regiment shipped to Italy in April, 1944:
