Default Oil bath oil level M38A1 CDN 1953

was wondering what level to fill the oil bath air cleaner to after i clean it up and repaint it...?
Also what grade oil does it use just straight 30w or a multi and I am assuming that the air cleaner uses the same as the engine.

I have not changed the oil as it was changed when i bought it and si clean so was wondering what i need to top up or replace it...
thanks
Casey

Fill the oil to the line under the word "Level" seen in the photo. Whatever is right for your engine will be right for your aircleaner. While multi grade oil did not exist in 1953, it should work OK in an air filter. In the old days it was 10W in the winter and 30 weight in the summer. When the army went to multigrade, 10W30 was the norm, soon followed by the heavy duty 15W40.

Remembering that you are in BC, I would suggest 10W30 all year round. Here in the prairies, we might go a little lighter when the arctic chill sets in. Mind you, we don't drive our jeeps much past November.
