Default Insurance coverage

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I am looking for insurance for my tracked vehicle, has anyone had success in having legitimate coverage?
My current (historic vehicle) insurance provider in Ontario, Canada, is not interested in underwriting my vehicle.

Thx, Brock

In BC we have a number of licensed carriers, M5 tractor and at least 6 or so half-tracks. Vintage plates only with limited use.

Link above is who I use for my T-16 Universal Carrier and other vintage vehicles that have tyres. They have no issues with the carrier being tracked and having no title since it isn't a street vehicle down here. USAA Insurance is linked to them as well but you don't have to be a USAA member to use them. I've had one claim in the past ten years with my jeep so I know they will pay when needed and don't drop you or jack up your rates just because you used your policy.

Being insured against loss is one thing, but liability is probably more important given the possibility of running something/someone over that gets into your blind spots. Thankfully I haven't had that happen yet.

I take it you mean Haggerty/Silver Wheels?

Have you tried to contact Hagerty directly.

If you go to their web site you should get the phone number. Avoid anything with silver wheels in the name.

yes ... apparently Lant (AVIVA) don't do tracks.
.... and having 6 vehicles (no claims) with them for 25 years didn't help.
I will try contacting Haggerty direct as suggested.
I believe I could do the snowmobile thing, but would prefer insuring it as a historic collectable.

I welcome your replies / suggestions

thanks, Brock

Dear All,

Lant and Haggerty eh?

Well, pull up a pew.

Lant offers a product that is sold by others as well and things have changed quite a bit over a short amount of time.

From my discussions with Ms Julie Lant periodic appraisals are no longer required. I do know that she has said the industry is getting leaner and margins are getting thinner and what Haggerty offers in the USA is not the same as what is offered up north in Canada.

I have to do more research.

I do know that Haggerty in the USA do not require an ownership for a vehicle to be insured but I am fairly sure Lant do and also want a photograph and I am aware of one tracked vehicle in Ontario that currently is insured for the road.

Default No problem

Insurance in Ontario, Canada for a Universal Carrier?
No coverage for off-roading.
Full coverage, $1m liability, $100.00 deductible collision, compliant with specific Provincial Regulations. Vehicle must be shedded or otherwise stored indoors, and an image showing the same provided on application. Anticipated use is parades, shows, special events as a collector vehicle.

Subject to stated value, but for a $10,000.00 policy: $130.00 plus $40.00 processing fee. Underwritten by AVIVA.
Hagerty, 1-800-922-4050.

Lets get some clarification on this......"compliant with specific Provincial Regulations". What does this mean - with specifics to carriers.

I'd be interested in a liability policy only.....I'm not here to collect for my mistakes.

Hmm, have I been giving my money to an unsympathetic entreprise? If I was to ever in a position to operate a Carrier, I would of course have a conversation with my vintage vehicle insurance contact, Doreen Addorisio (doreen AT lant-ins.ca). However, if the boss says no to tracks, that is their choice. But it doesn`t mean we can`t disagree. Strength in numbers boys.

Need more specifics?
Call Russ, or any other service rep @ Hagerty, a family run business: 1-800-922-4050, 8:30am - 6:30pm, M-F. They are also open shorter hours on Sat - Sun, and replied on a Sunday to an e-mail request. I have my quote, the followup includes four .pdf.s with questionnaire, coverage summary, 30 day valid quote, and Notice regarding Accident Benefits specific to Ontario, as Ontario has Statutory Accident Benefits (SABS). I too would be pleased with liability only, it is not offered. One package, all inclusive.

Default Hagerty Insurance

Hi,

My insurance agent confirmed Michael R.'s reply regarding Hagerty. I got a policy quoted for 3 vehicles - the Mk1, the F-60S and the C-15A for just over $300 per year. Primarily for parades, the occasional boot down the road into the back 40, car shows and Legion get togethers. They probably frown on drive-thru's and 4 lane highways.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.
Here's an update.

As suggested (thanks Ross) I contacted Hagerty directly on their Canada 1 800 number.
After jumping through the usual hoops, I was granted liability insurance for my tracked historic vehicle. ... I am kinda excited.

After the reception received from the other provider, I was concerned that I would have difficulty getting ANY.
Hagerty was a pleasure to do business with and my agent on the phone didn't miss a beat,
when I told him what the vehicle was, and it's method of movement.
I sent in photos and I have received my liability slip !

again, thanks all for your help and input

Brock
