Thumbs up buyers name

Look at the buyers name....should be familiar to alot of us here.

to quote Monty Python "You lucky, lucky barstard!" I'd have paid double that if I'd seen it in time. only saw the link just now ( Sunday morning 9am local )

EVERYTHING is there. The photos aren't 100% but I think all boxes and junctions are there for what looks like an armoured fit-out.

JEALOUS

Good luck to you mate. Bet you'll have hours of fun with that lot.

Anyway.....would have cost too much in freight to Australia. Wah..ha.ha.ha sob sob

The set was probably 98 percent New Old Stock and had been stored in a collection for the past 30-40 years so everything is mint and most items still had paper tags on them. Included but not listed in the auction were several extra items including the complete mounting diagram set and hardware for use in an M4. I sure won't need it all in a T-16 but a friend who purchased my previous No 19 set and accessories (so I could upgrade) will be able to use it. The kit includes not just the mounting shelf but the shock mounts, side shelf braces, radio and P/S unit canvas covers and a large bag of the clips for bolting all of the cables to the armor as well as hangers for five headsets.

Of particular interest was the signal satchels. There were three unissued satchels which were made to the British/Commonwealth pattern but with American OD canvas with American straps and hardware. Essentially reverse lend-lease which was done with other items the English produced in small numbers so US politicians could justify to the public that things worked out in the end with some much going to the UK.

When I posted the link I figured there was a good chance that someone on the forum might end up with it. Like you say it's all new and complete so you get all you need in one lot.

It was expensive but the days of the complete and working $200 sets are long gone. Guess its the same price curve across the board with gear and parts for everything WWII now.

The set could be broken up and sold as individual items for at lease 50 percent over what it cost based on market prices so I felt safe I could get this one and either part out my old complete set or make it available to someone for a really good deal which is what ended up happening to it. My old set was complete and nice but not this nice and it lacked some of the bonus goodies like the unique satchels and mounting hardware.

A gamble I guess but it worked out to be a nice way to slide into an upgraded set. I'd already seen it on eBay when the forum post went out about it. I'd been on the fence calculating values for what was there and slowly watching it go up. Figured if I didn't do the buy-it-now, someone else would as it wouldn't have been long before it got closers. It was past the half way mark in one day of a ten day listing.

Default Well done Dave!

I'm looking forward to seeing it, are you bringing it to Brent's?

This one is planned to go into the carrier which won't be running yet by Brent's open house. Engine is done but I need to fabricate all of the T-16 oil cooler lines before I can drop the engine in. So guess you'll be stuck with me ratting around in my airborne jeep next month. :witch

I just stole this one off ebay. I really paid $76 for it. Now I just have to get it shipped from Wisconsin and that's about 3000 miles at a guess. It was listed under US field equipment which is why there weren't any more bidders.

SCORE! Great buy, I love it when they mis-identify their item. That's how I got a brand new, still in the bag, complete with original tent pins, Canadian circular tent for half the price of a reproduction tent without pegs. Good on ya! Derek.

Really great deal on that set! Probably was listed under US since the data pate says USA. My first set was a Canadian Mark III with appropriate power supply. Superior design but it had been gutted even though it displayed well.

The new set which replaces my old Mark II turned out to have matching serial numbers on the data plates for the variometer, power supply and main set which was a bit of a surprise. I'd only previously been aware of it having been made at the same location.

On a related note, this one was configured for installation in a Sherman tank. Documentation and tagged wires indicates both 24v and 12v connections for power at the same time. I know the Mk III had a switch in the P/S Unit for 12v OR 24v but not both at once. Even a metal etched wiring diagram for inside the tank hull shows this with 24v being the positive connection and the 12v serving as the red wire which is the negative for the Microphone. Make sense to anyone?

I just got a message from the seller. $156 to get it here so that's not too bad.
