Default Landsverk Lynx Armoured Cars

The Royal Danish Army had plans for buying 18 ACs type Landsverk Lynx. For financial reasons only three were ordered in Dec 1938. They were delivered 1939 to Denmark, where they got the numbers FP 9 - FP 11.

In May 1939 another nine were ordered followed in Feb 1940 by another six.

On 9 April 1940 Denmark fell under German "protection" but Denmark still had an Army.

The Swedish Government put the 15 ACs beeing built in Sweden under embargo.

The Danish Army also had a Landsverk L-185 (1934) and two L-181 (1936).

In 1943 these ACs probably were taken over by the Germans? But what happened to them?

Some of them, somehow, ended up in the Dominican Republic - from where they are now offered for sale!

Default Dominican Republic

Yes, the Number One Super-Neutral Moral Great Power of Sweden did sell a number of Tanks, ACs and Mustang Fighter Aircraft (ex-US) to the Dominican Republic.

(And a firearms factory to Egypt, sub-machine guns to Indonesia and Mustang Fighter Aircraft to Israel e t c).

The tanks were type m/40 L (L=Landsverk). 100 were ordered in 1940 and delivered in 1942. They served with 4th Armoured Regt.

After beeing decommissioned in 1957 20 of those tanks were sold to the Dominican Republic in 1960.

I knew that they were running there for a long time - but now on sale! Fantastic!

ADDED: This was originally a design for Hungary. They were manufactured under license by Mowag and Ganz and used by the Hungarians on the East Front - known as "Toldi".

Default Landsverk Lynx APC

Hanno,

I couldn´t resist showing you this Landsverk Lynx Armed Personell Carrier.

This APC was a project for Denmark which to the best of my knowledge was never realized. It was designed to carry 10 men.

Default Dominican Republic

Hanno,

Suddenly I got exited when I realized --- the Dominican Republic Army did not renumber the vehicles. The numbers used are the original Swedish!

So the Lynx ACs offered for sale are all three of model m/39 intended for Denmark. They were armed with 2 - 8 mm HMGs in the turret.

902 delivered in Sept 1940 served with 1st Cav Regt in Stockholm. Transferred 27 Jul 1942 to 2nd Cav Regt in Helsingborg.

909 delivered in Dec 1940 served with 4th Cav Regt in Umeċ. Transferred to 2nd Cav regt 27 July 1942.

912 delivered in June 1941 served with 7th Motorized Inf Regt in Ystad.

In Sept 1941 - Feb 1942 the m/39 ACs were rebuilt with 20 mm guns and redesigned m/40.

The Landsverk c/n:s were 227-235 and 303-308.
