North African M3 Grant Question
Hello All
Where did all the M3 Grants go after the North African campaign? It is said that as the M3s had been replaced by the M4 Sherman, both Grants and Lees were distributed to other Commonwealth Armies. Many went to Indian units in Burma to continue the fight against the Japanese. I have read that the majority of M3s sent to this theatre of war were M3 Lees. If this is the case, where could other M3 Grants have gone? Australia perhaps? See attached photo. I am seeking any information to confirm that Grants were sent from North Africa to Australia circa 1943. I am aware of the 'standard issue' information on the web in relation to this matter. What I am seeking is documentation or photographs that are not readily available online such as shipping manifests or official lists of M3 Grant/armoured vehicles used during the battles of North Africa from September 1942. Any help would be appreciated. Last edited by Stuart Kirkham; 11-10-17 at 06:48. |

Grants
I believe many of the Grants ended up in the South pacific with the Australians. I've seen photos of "former Desert" Grants somewhere pertaining to this. Also I think some ended up as recovery vehicles in Italy.
