Default Rub&Bub Recobery Jan 06

Heading best read with your nob plubbed with a hud cobd.

.....after 22 hours in the confined space of a trcuk cab I understand that Rob is now catching up to me with COLD!!!!

This of course will be a long string of postings with appropriate pictures ......

Behold........At the very end you will see the ultimate CMP... the elusive cab 15 prototype.....eight wheel drive monster.... never seen before...... never catalogue by even David Hayward....

It all started at 3:30 am when I stumbeld out of bed.... with a box of Kleenex in hand..... picked up my partner in crime at Five AM with a fresh supply of Timmies coffee and tea.

At ten am we pulled in the field of dreams North of Oshawa..... having left behind snow and ice and found these trucks behind the chicken barn in the shade od Toronto's bananna trees..... only in Canada can you go 400km and be in a different weather zone..... weather station claimed today that Toronto had the mildest Winter since 1930.....

Here is the field of dreams.... followed by a few close ups....

Default Time to frappe la route......

My apologies for the French lingo but it is a favorite phrase of Rub........

Now things got a little confusing....... Stew or Low fame... had given us some very clear driving instructions which we had printed off the 'puter and interpreted to our liking.

Another 200km or so and Rub tells me we are coming up to exit 230 off the 401..... of course with my cold and fever accused Rub of reading an Alberta map and it HAD to be exit 320 which is the same as Chris Vickery's exit our last stop...... well be pulled out at exit 320 only to find out we were short about 100km to the real exit 230.... back we go.... me sniffing all the way....snorting our umpten tea and coffee.......

Finally pulled in at Stew's place...... by now it is 2pm... took time to fire a few rounds into a bucket of manure (commonly referred to as shoot the sh**) and we indulged in ouonly beer of the whole day.... it sure felt good onmy sore throat...

Stew had to ham it up standing on the frame and going vroom vroom as we winch the rolling frame on board......

Default again frappe la route.....

....now we are off to our last stop in Rockwood.... to meet with Chris Vickery.......

Chris is the second generation member of a car club called the Ventures....... running since 1963...... the lucky memebrs ahve access to a garage with hydraulic lifts, wash booth, heated I might add, ample parking etc.....

Ther we loaded by hand....... thank God for the help of club members axles which had not rolled for a while, tons of loose parts and a complete cab 13.... again I emphasize by hand.

Almost 5:30 and we have everything lashed down with straps, chains, rope and bailing wire. A BIG THANK YOU to the beefy club members who there helping hand...... a note in passing ... by then I was tarting to fade real fast..... and a specific tanh you to Chris for his hospitality and more than generous fair deal..... the back of the Furd towing vehicle was considerably lower with all the parts.......

We stopped at a local "Casual Dining" in the Rock...... boy did we stand out....... This being Saturday night it gradually filled with local people, couple... all well dressed... and there we are looking like we really are..... two CMP nuts...... stuffing our face with waht truned out to be really good grub..... I mean meals..... and me blowing my nob into a ball of wet Klennex ebery five minutes...

So we hit the road again...... uneventful except for the long return drive.....grateful that the Winter storm that would hit Toronto Sunday gave us enough lead time to get home.

Rolled in my drivewat at 1:45 am Sunday morning.....

....tired yes..... but glad we did it again......

Default Behind the Barn

This is the field behind Bob's barn. He and Rob still don't think that they have enough CMP frames and cabs and are looking to add some more.

Lamplighting Jasus Christmas, Clive! Stop doing that! Long haired niner reads this stuff - takes interest in hubbie's hobbys. If she ever gets an inkling of what is really there, me parts will be made into bookends! I tell her that it is all Bob's stuff, but she is starting to see thru that line - seems that Bob's better 3/4s and my frau are chatting more and more...anyone else out there wanna join us? We need someone to take the blame.

Qualifications:

Can't be married (or have a "partner" - same problems as having a wife);
Can't have more than two CMPs (frames count!);
Gotta like driving all day;
Gotta love beer (whilst not driving);
Gotta love the smell of old grease;
Gotta love beer;
Gotta have war stories;
Must be able to spell CMP;
Gotta love beer;
Mechanical skills are not required;
Will work for beer;
Sense of humour a prerequisite; and
Gotta be able to lie without cracking a smile or avoiding a gaze...

As for the Cab 15, 8WD prototype, it is for sale (no warranty - and we have some minor welding to do on it).

I might have a problem with the CPM bit, however, go ahead and tell your whip-cracking niners that this stuff actually belongs to me and that you two are just volunteering to help me out. Once you are deeply into that story I will make my real demands known.

Mike:

Addendum to Qualifications:

Must be able to send photos...

Clive:

Your kind offer is accepted! We just have to photoshop you into a few of the photos...Bob's stick man artistry just ain't working.

Cab 15 news - the middle rear differential leaked gear oil (sludge) on Bob's trailer...might be a wee leak there, so we will lower the price. Offers will be entertained.

Default Wives with sense of humor a must

Wives with sense of humor a must god bless them.

The other day my wife drove in from work to find the two trucks below flanking the driveway.

I’ve been trying to get the engines from these trucks which where in the back of an old junkyard for several years lot was so full there were no isles. Anyway just happened to stop in to check to see if there was any chance of seeing them before spring, discovered that the yard had been sold everything was going to Japan by the end of the month.

Long and short of it if I wanted the engines they would deliver the trucks that day.

Default With oil filters....

Nice to see that both blocks are fitted with oil lines to a filter.....

When you get a chance.... check the serial numbers on the cylinder heads...... casting serial numbers that end with XXXX848 are very desirable heads.... usually found on 235 and will fit on a 261..... if the 261 has the 848 head it is a sign that it may have been rebuilt at one time.....

*848 heads will give slightly better compression and breathing but they will need to be drilled of rhte steam holes.... the 261 head gasket serves as a template for drilling the four holes in pairs of two.

Quite the find Phil as you have all the parts and pieces from fan to bellhousing...... don't forget to use the 261 flywheel and clutch as you will have more torque and they fit perfectly inside the 216CMP bellhousing....... you m ight even be tempted to use the modern tranny with full synchros...... but.... the modern tranny is longer and would require fitting......

Now you will just need to build another test stand if you want to try them out.......

Nice to have an understanding wife..... so tell us what are you going to buy her for Valentine to stay on her good side...

Default Barring a Lottery Win...

...that's it! Orders from Headquarters. I've been told. Long-haired Niner has spoken. Orders Gp ends. No more runs for old stinky CMP parts for me...that she will know about!

Good show, Bob. It was a nice trip going from the frozen Capitol to the banana belt of Whitby and points south. We do have a long way to go (pun intended) to beat the distances travelled by our Ozzie friends and Stewart Loy...I understand there are nice CMP truck parts just laying about in the dumps near Whitehorse...I figure we can make Winnipeg before the gals cotton onto our plans.

Lessons learned this trip:

- Bob can drive for as long as there is fuel in the tank;
- Bob consumes as much tea as the diesel sucks fuel;
- Bob can talk, sip tea, blow his nose, eat a cookie and drive at the same time;
- The elusive cab 15 8WD exists;
- Southern Ontario has at least three climate zones;
- Some chicken sh*t outfits are pleasant surprises (thanks Brian and Mel);
- You meet some of the nicest folks in this hobby (thanks Ventures); and
- You don't have to be crazy to enjoy this hobby, but it sure helps!
