Default Half Track in the Mud...

I'm glad you like it. I am little concerned about the official looking fellow in the trench coat. If that chain gave way, he'd be in the line of fire of getting it in the chops! Also, note the spent cigarette package in the foreground.

Default WD serial?

Hello Michael,

I was interested to read your post. I would be interested to know if any of the Unit History or papers you have contain any WD serial numbers or vehicle names used by 23rd Field Regiment.
Thanks for any info you have.

Cheers
Kevin

Default Michael!!!!!!

This shows a photo of my uncle Doug! Also I have glossies of two of the photos shown, which I have attached (I hope)! Most Excellent! I do not have a copy of the history in this form. Cheryl England was most kind to send me an earlier mimeograph but it doesn't show these photos that you seem to have.

Default Yes please Jim! Post away.

I would be most interested to see the photos.
Being a military model builder I like to try and get WD numbers, markings etc as accurate as possible. So the photos would be most useful.

Cheers

Default SP magazine ...

I also have some copies of "SP" which were kindly sent to me by Herb Danter. These all relate to the regiment's time in Holland.

My main interest in the 23rd is their stay in Eastbourne, and I wonder whether there are any copies of SP of that time. If anyone has information, I would be grateful to hear because we are hoping to up-date and revise "Canucks by the Sea - The Canadian Army in Eastbourne during the 2nd World War".

Default Kevin and Mike T

Kevin: I don't have any more photos of equipment other than what I have already posted. Most of what I have are pictures of individuals as well as town etc. I really wish I had my Uncle's photo album. This was lost to the family through problems with my Aunt's estate (don't get me started, as my uncle wanted all fo this sort of stuff etc to come to us).

I can look at my uncles letters WRT Eastbourne, but I suspect that Herb Danter is the best source on this information, since he was actually there.

Default Thanks for posting

Thanks to Michael Reintjes for posting the info on the two publications on the 23rd Field Reg. I've seen both at the Toronto and North York Reference Libraries and was able to make a copy of the History - but lucky you to have the originals.

Default Picture of Oct '07 Reunion of 83rd Battery in Hamilton

I've attached a copy of a photo taken on Oct 20/07 at a reunion of
the 83rd Battery of the 23rd Field Regiment - location James St. Armoury, Hamilton, Ontario. Sorry the only names I know are of Herb Danter (2nd from left front row) and Doug Rochester (3rd from left front row). What a fine looking group of "heros". I attended the reunion and some of the men remembered my dad Eric England.

Many Thanks go to Cheryl England for posting this item.
I can add a few more names to this photo. I am sitting second from the left and to my left is Doug Rochester]At the far end of this row to my left is Lorne Munce who was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star for his greatwork in Normandy.
Behind him standing is Larry Holleran who is the organizer of this fine reunion.
third from the left standing is Bob Caunt and next to him on his left is Fred Walsh
Thanks again Cheryl

Hanno! Sorry for the late reply. I wasn't notified of your post and as such haven't read it until today.

I believe I posted most of my uncle's better photos, however, when I go home this evening, I will see if there are some others I can put up on this site.

Sheryl,
If you are still following this thread - my book on the military motorcycle in use by Canada has now gone to press (2 years late) and I expect delivery by end of March. Your photo appears therein.
Thnx

Bryan: Yes, I remember you from the reunion of October 2007! You had me going for a bit when you indicated you had a video of the 23rd and "Doug"!

I would be very interested in contacting you to find out what you might need. I have some digital copies of photos of my Uncle's Lt. JRD Cave. I would also like any that you might have.

Hi Cheryl,

No problem. Go to http://www.servicepub.com/motorcycle.htm This page is just for the motorcycle book. By clicking on the "Add to Cart" button you start the process.

Cheers,

Clive

My grandfather was Gordon Wilbur Graham, he was a Sergeant with this group of men. His nickname was Doc. Do these gentlemen still have these reunions? I would love to attend. My grandfather used to attend them faithfully.

Default 23rd Field Regiment Reunion

Sorry, the last one I attended was with Herb Danter in 2007 in Hamilton, but
unfortunately he has since passed away and he was my link to the reunions.
Can anyone out there who reads these posts, know of who to contact
re when and where the reunions of the 23rd Field Regiment are.

Hello My Naylor, I am pretty sure the gentleman at the very far right of you picture in front of the tank is my grandfather, Gordon Wilbur Graham, he was a Sergeant with this group. His nickname was Doc. He also rode motorcycle for this group, he was wounded on August 14th at Falaise Gap. Do these reunions still occur? He attended regularly up to the time he passed. I would love to attend if these still happen.
Kindest Regards, Dave Schefter

Default War Diary

Hi Dave:
I have an electronic copy of the 23rd Field Regiment's War Diary.
Sgt. Gordon W. Graham is shown on page 78 of the Diary on a
wounded list. Do you want me to email you the diary?
Cheryl
