This is a prototype Chrysler built truck delivered to LETE on 26 August 1969. It is vehicle no. 03 of 6 built. The plate does look like a civilian plate. Other pictures in the test literature show vehicle 05 bearing DND plate no. 12165 & vehicle no. 02 bore plate 35835.F

Is the CFR database available to search for this Ambulance. It will be coming up for restoration in the spring of 2015.

Cheers!

Default No longer accessing EDR

Good Evening Gentlemen.

I am beginning the long road to a medical release from the CAF and will no longer be accessing the EDR viewer.

The torch will need to be passed to one of the other serving members of the forum. If anyone is interested in picking this up and has DIN access, PM me for the details.

Default Thank you for this service to the HMV community

Scott,
I wish to thank you for providing this service to the Historic Military Vehicle community over the years. The information has provided direction and focus for many in the restoration of their military vehicles.

Having the information from the EDR viewer provides insight into the service history of the vehicle, and the multiple roles that it has performed. In many ways, it provides a personality to the vehicle.

I am sorry to hear about the medical release. I hope that things go as smoothly as possible, as you transition to whatever the future will hold in store for you.

Regards

Stuart Fedak

That CFR was overwritten in 2008 to a commercial Ford F250, so no data exists on it anymore

Ref trailers - when I ran my trailer's number it was anticlimactic. There was virtually no money spent on it, and almost no work orders listed. Only some interunit transfers, but nothing earthshaking.

One thing to remember with the older 50s equipment was that there was some fairly large releases in the early 70s when Trudeau Sr reduced the size of Canada's army. Because those vehicles and trailers left so early, they are not included in the EDR viwer. Data only starts to appear there in the 77/78 time period.

Often the early release stuff can be spotted because they are still in the single olive colour (no cam) and later mods will be missing, such as west coast mirrors on deuces, or the complete sandblasting that the trailers were subjected to in the early 80s.

Thanks again for doing the search for me. What I was mostly interested in is, the bases it had been on and how it ended up here on the Vancouver Island. When we got the trailer the owner had left it full of gravel so there wasn't much left of the box! We did a full rebuild and now pull it behind the 45 Willys MB.

Default Can we still find CFR Numbers?

I don't know if the TRW that I just got running ever had one...I'm suggesting it was one of the last issued in 76 for the olympics. Maybe never had a cfr plate issued?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJicS1XbOcg

All I have is the serial number...

There are only 6 triumphs listed in the EDR viwer....yours is not one of them.

My money says all motorcycles held in the Canadian army would have been issued a CAR/CFR number. It just may not have made it onto the tank or number plate. Your serial is certainly right in the group of Cdn numbers.

Thanks rob

when I first joined up (72) I'd often get tasked with the admin run to the Highbury Ave supply depot in London.

There were 99 of these bikes in crates..3 wide, three high, and 11 long, with the great big TRIUMPH stencil on the side. One crate had a few slats off and I would gawk. Every time.

The pile got a bit smaller every now and then and the last were issued to the Sigs regiment for the 76 Olympics.

I was hoping that this may be one of them..

Yes, but it is not as easy as people think.

Your MOTORCYCLE MEDIUM 485CC ARMSTRONG MT500 (OBSOLETE) is Canadian Forces Registration 1986 78553; serial number MTEC0060; disposed by CFB Calgary (HUIC 0109).

CFR No Departure Arrival HUIC Unit
78553* 16-Nov-95 08-Feb-91 2122* 1 MP Pl
78553* 08-Feb-91 17-Jan-89 1763* 1 RCHA
78553* 17-Jan-89 15-Jul-86 0103* CFB Esquimalt

It had a fairly uneventful life on the Prairies, except for one brief fling in 2R22eR`s Maintenance Section which lists the user unit as 2 MP Pl.

Now that you know the CFR, spend $5 for an Access to Information report on everything the system has.

I never figured it was easy. I thought it was impossible. Many thanks for your efforts. Is there a special way to word the access to information request so I get all the info?

Thanks again

CFR 86214

Thanks
B85 class vehicle
ECC code 121501
TRK UTIL LT ILTIS,
total qty purchased 2386,
CFR 1984 - 86214 is serial number BI01-12-84-86214,
Disposed by CFB Kingston 28 Nov 2005.

The EDR is tempermental, and availability can be sporadic. With this information, it is possible to do a $5 Access to Information search for all records associated with the CFR and SN. Some decoding of the jargon and abbreviations will be required, but you will see the same information (or more) as shown on the EDR.

Terry, can you suggest appropriate text to use in the Access to Information Request that would result in the most useful information. I know there is always a danger of being too specific, and of being too vague. Would it be useful to specify all information as contained in the EDR on the given CFR?

Can one ask for multiple CFR information in the same Access to Information Request?

Your thoughts?

Stuart

Default Access to Information

The form is simple. The question has to be one that a complete stranger and bureaucrat will understand. Give the person as much information which department has what you need, which part of the big machine, and where you believe it will be found. Like I posted somewhere earlier, give them the CFR, vehicle type, and the serial number if known.

So, key words would be:

Department of National Defence, ADM (MAT), I would like all maintenance and user information on file for CFR 70-08876, M38A1 CDN 3 "Jeep", serial number believed to be 3453453453235345. Records are likely found on the EDR (Equipment Data Registry?). Response in pdf format on hard copy.

Pay your $5 by cheque to the Receiver General of Canada, or on line with a credit card.

There is notice on the DIN that "Effective 10 Jul 2015 EDR Viewer is no longer available". There is still a very basic one available, but it does not have anywhere near the information that the detailed one had.

All good things must come to an end.

Plus, the basic one only covers the current vehicle with the CFR, so essentially the older vehicles get over-written when the CFR gets re-issued.

Glad we were able to scour it while it was still around Rob, and a big thanks to you for originally making the connection.

A coworker called Ottawa today to see if it was possible to salvage the data from the old EDR viewer. The answer was it is gone. Fact is it just didn't make sense paying anything to maintain data that was between 5 and 38 years old.....it just doesn't serve any military purpose.
