How hard to find parts for CMPs??
Well, I was out for a hike today in my cousins acerage. I have heard rumors around that there was an old CMP somewhere out in the bush, and today I found it. Or more correctly, what is left of it. It was a ford I think, had a straight 8 in it. His neighbour restored a CMP, a 42 Chevy, and he salvaged a lot of parts of the old ford. All that is left is the frame, engine, tranny, axles, pretty much a roller. The cab is still there, put someone took a torch and has hacked it up pretty bad. What I could see of the frame didnt look to bad in the snow, the drive shafts were missing though.
Would something like that be too far gone, or are there cabs available? I am more into jeeps, but if there are parts available, I may go over with the tractor and haul it out of the bush. Tom And yes, I will go back and get some pictures later in the week. |

Straight eight..??
Tom
Hi Tom..SAVE IT!!! CMP's never had straight eights in them and would not fit without extensive modifications...PICTURES are imperative..we will all be waiting with baited breath...for your pictures to find out just what you have discovered in the wilds of....??? (You should update your personal file to show a little of yourself including your location so the rest of us can come and visit you and raid your treasures..LOL Just kidding..it is only the Barn boys..from Hammond and the Oz boys that do that..led by that bush bandit..Keefie 'da Teefie") But all kidding aside we all try to get our real names and locations in our posting headers so that we can help others in our area's.

Yes SAVE IT......
Hi TomThere is always something to be salvaged..... even if it is just for pictures and measurements......
Tell us where you are...... Little things like the brass blocks that connects the brake hose to the wheel cylinders...... are all precious...... It would be nice if it was a prototype Chrysler with a straight 8 engine..... ...and pictures please...... you can never take enough..... particularly if you are to take it apart..... and try to figure out how parts fitted where.... four years later. You should consider working on it..... MLU is a good location to find parts... so is knowing the Pope on a first name basis for Divine intervention............ the biggest problem is the distance and cost associated with shipping.... We have a Ford cab at the barn.... and possibly another that could be acquired..... and we also have a full complete Ford that is waiting to be loved back to life....... assuming you are slightly perverted. Us pure of heart stick to Chevrolet...... NOW watch the lightning....... Boob

Ok, I will go back probably on Sunday and get some pics. I couldn't really get at the engine to have a good look for snow, my cousin was telling me he thought it was a ford 8 in it. I will go back with a shovel and get it cleaned out. It looks to have been park a very long time, there was a fair sized tree grown up around the back tire.
It would be easy to haul out, it's only a few hundred metres into the bush, right off the side of a trail. The word on the street is that the local township bought two after the war, and used them up until the 60s to plow snow. Bob sold the good one to his neighbour, and he scavenged parts off the other one, and that's all I know. I will get after Bob again and see if I can haul it out in the spring. All I need to do is go down with the backhoe and a chainsaw, clear a few trees, and tow it out. My wife is going to be so happy..... She was just ecstatic in October when I broke my ankle, then two days later after my surgery, towed home my M38A1 and 53 M100 trailer. hahaha p.s. I am in Tobermory, Ont. I also know the neighbour that restored the 42 Chev, and he is looking to sell if it hasn't already sold. It was in good shape, he used to take it to the local car show the odd night. Tom |

Tobermory..
Quote:
I may be wrong but I believe that the Caldwell's water truck was once a Tobermory town vehicle.. and may be one of the two that you spoke of in an earlier post.. Maybe Dan Or Jeff can tell of where they found their CMP's..One was from a small town Ontario municipality.. You better plan on coming to Ottawa in June for the BBB thrash in June.. With or with out vehicle, you are welcome..just be a CMP..Rusty old truck..or mean green kindred spirit..and you will fit in and enjoy yourself..

I got busy.....
Hey all, sorry for the delay in getting pictures, but I had something come up. I promise i will have pics by the end of this weekend.
I did however find out a bit more about the chassis. I mentioned it to my mom, and she said she can remember it from when she was a kid. My cousin would use it as a snow plow for the winter, and then the rest of the year used it to get to the hunt camps and for hauling lumber out of the bush. She thought it has probably been parked atleast 25 years... More to come later. Tom |

Finally got pics!!
I got busy last weekend, so here are the pics I promised. Frame and axles look ok, the rest not so much. Is it worth draggin out this spring? Could it be rebuilt, or just parted?
Anyways, enough talking, here the pics.... Think it's still got any warranty? And my wife, who threatened divorce and death if I drag this home. I hear a challenge.... |

Worth saving......even if it's a Ford....
Rims....axles..... tranny....T case.... shock absorber...steering box....fuel tank (?)..... frame looks shortened from both ends and welded bracing in front... a lot of parts can be salvaged from the engine......
I would drag it home if it was me...... Boob

Hi Tom, That engine looks like a good fixer uppper. Still lotsa good stuff on what some might think is just a pile of junk just as bob mentioned. Cheers from one of the Ford boys in Windsor myke aka Frik or is it Frak.... Last edited by Mike Timoshyk; 22-02-10 at 02:57. |

Well, since there are horses in the family, that truck looks like it's been run hard and put away wet too often.

[/QUOTE] If the missus is into horses, how come youre not allowed a truck (or two)???? This'll stir something up - like poking a brown snake with a stick.

Problem is, I already have a couple old jeeps, a 67 M38A1 I am just finishing, and a 67 CJ3B, as well as a 53 M100, etc etc.
I do think I will be dragging this out of the bush though after snow melts... |

What type of V8 is that? It looks like an English V8 out of a Ford Pilot with that distributor that is fitted. Not a Crab type for a Cab 13 or the earlier divers helmet for a Cab11/12.
Rick.
