2 pdr/6 pdr Tyres
As they say: Never say never. A friend 2 provinces over found these in the rafters of a now defunct surplus store in Calgary some 30 years ago. Three brand new tires, 2 on rims, and have never been installed on a gun. A deal was struck and they are now in my shed waiting installation. The rubber is still soft and pliable. I am not so obtuse as to ever tow these on my gun into the city, they will strictly be for parade or display purposes after being trailer-ed to the location. I guess I better start making the hitch brackets for my Mk1 carrier.
Almost forgot,I have to weld the gun as well thanks to the inane regulations of our corrupt ruling party. |

Impressive! , got a silly question though....why so much grip on the tires when they are only towed? , Cheers Andrew.

Amazing to see what still comes out of the rafters/ woodwork/ barn/ scrap pile, eight decades after the war...

Hi Rob,
Very nice find. I have a request : in the wonderfull world of modelling there was/is a debate about the tyre dimensions for a 6 Pdr. With your pristine tyres I hope you can help us. So, we just need 3 dimensions : external diameter, internal diameter and width. [IMG][/IMG] Cheers, Patrice. |

Tim: I will have one spare which I am not using and would be made available if there was to be such an endeavor. But I am not so sure the demand would be sufficient for someone to have that done. It;s not like the few guys who do have these guns would be buying extras for 70 years down the road when the new set wear out.
Then again, maybe one day there will be 3D printers for tires. Patrice: I'll measure them up when I get home from work tonight. |

Rob, you certainly never cease to surprise. Must have horseshoes stuck somewhere….
You always seem to source the unobtainable, good on ya!

I will leave Rob to give the Height and Tread Width of a pristine tire, as mine has probably lost some tread depth.

The tires I have are presently deflated. The total height of the tire is 27.5 inches (just under 70 cm).
I missed measuring the tread width. I'll add that tomorrow. |

Hi Tony and Rob,
Thanks for the prompt reply...and sorry for my late answer (my computer was down for several days). @ Rob : curious to see if the width differs from Tony used tyre to your NOS tyre. Cheers, Patrice. |

I'll check today, but my tires are deflated, so the sidewalls will not be as wide. I could give you the tread width...but sidewall width will not be correct.

Hi Rob, you mention you have to do some further deactivation work to your gun, I’m looking for details of the bracket that attaches the elevation gearbox to the recuperator housing, can you help ? Bracket marked with red arrow.
Kevin.
