looks very similar to the box that holds the inter vehicle cord between a trailer like the M100 and what is towing it.

Well,

That kind of what I thought it looked like as well.

Is there any provenance of their use on Ferrets then?

Definitely not the M100 cable box.....in fact almost no resemblance other than it's a box.

I think I have seen that box somewhere before, but can't place where.

just looked on the Midwest Military page where they sell repro M-100 cable boxes..from what I could tell the latch is not the same.. wonder about the actual dimensions?

..alas I dont have the m-100 box to send you the dimensions robin but perhaps someone else can -my uneducated guess is , the box is similar but not the same.

6" deep x9" high x12" wide are the dimensions of the M100 box.
