DND getting rid of them with, as far as I know, no replacement even on the drawing board!
Such brilliance is overwhelming.

If you've watched the news, the govt of Canada has big troubles buying anything, not just 4x4 trucks.

Under (retd) General Leslie's rationalization plan, the LSVW size trucks were redundant. Sure, they made great campers for the Sgt major, but aside from some rear echelon ambulances, the bulk of them either should be larger armoured vehicles so they can be used in theater of war, or just gone altogether.
I read into that tender that all of those are getting shredded, and not broken down for spares. Shame.....that would have been a good source of parts for the LSVWs that do make it for sale. They are going to need them. Seems like it could have made more sense to sell these 10 at a time for spare parts with the cab and frames having to be destroyed under supervision. As it is, they are most likely going to go for about $200 each. |

With the average selling price these days, that's about $400,000 worth of vehicles... With the conditions on that sale, they'll be lucky to get $10-$20,000 for the lot of them...
Such a waste of money and parts. It makes no sense, since they're still selling other ones intact one at a time without any clauses. There's no logical reason to require the destruction of these vehicles.

No, It's not!. It's a waste of taxpayers money. It is a one eyed, govt. dept. saying "F. You" to the people it works for.
Where is the combined effort for the "greater good" of the people. It's about untouchable bureaucrats in safe jobs bludging their way through life. If they had sold none to the public they might justify as some kind of security reason, but they (the disposals people) are running double standards. Good morning everyone.

100 trucks sold for $53,700.00
Sigh. One hundred parts trucks for scrap.
In the same auction from the same base, reasonably complete LSVW's for average $3000 each. What is the sense?

Actually, $537 a truck is more than an LSVW is worth in my books.
As I said before, shame they could not be cannibalized by the purchaser. At least he is likely to get 100 tanks of fuel out of the deal, although the rust in the tanks goes along with the fuel. |
