Default Document restorer sought

Dear All,

I have been lucky enough to buy a lovely poster that is starting to tear at the creases and has other condition issues.

Would anyone be able to point me towards someone whom I can pay to restore it or at least stabilise it

Thanks in advance

Although not a restorer, a read through the CCI Notes may help and give you some ideas.

The paper section is down near the bottom.

Jordan,

Good to see you on the weekend.

Thanks for the tip but honestly at the moment I would prefer to pay someone, I am slowly slipping into the vortex of the spring tillage and planting season so time is my enemy.

I want to get it done and I know I don't have the time to do it myself, too many projects, Im bad at that.

Thanks for the input

Thank you Terry and other who have sent messages.

I completely forgot to put up the poster itself, silly me. It is about 18 inches by 3 ft.

Neschen Filmoplast is your friend for repairing tears. It’s non acidic, so won’t brown with time (as I understand it), hence it's good for rare books etc.

I use Filmoplast P90 for the backs or hinges, and P for anything with text or diagrams. Both are made of paper, but P is incredibly thin, so it goes almost transparent when stuck down.

Book restorers use a tool called a whale bone (I’m guessing it’s not really made of whale any more) to smooth and scrape across the tape, and it makes a huge difference to how transparent it becomes. You may be able to do similar with a ruler or plastic butter knife, although if it’s something you really care about you may want to pick one up with the tape.

Filmoplast P90 on the hinge, P on a tear up the middle of the page.

Default Poster Restoration

Robin. Just seeing this thread now and not sure if you're still looking for someone to restore/stabilize the poster. If yes, there's a fellow in Port Perry, Ontario (Lake Scugog) who has become well know for his poster restorations. Perhaps give him a call. The link below will take you to his website.

Dear Terry, thank you for that lead.

It is on hold for the minute but in the pipeline as it were.
